Glossybox UK January 2012
Beauty boxes are bang on trend this year, having come into existence in 2011, they are the best way to try out some fantastic skin care, hair care and beauty products, usually high end, for as little as £10 a month. Your top leaders in this market are; Glossybox, Joliebox (formerly Boudoir Prive) and Carmine. They have taken the American BirchBox as their inspiration and brought it to the UK market.
I started my Glossybox subscription several months ago. I've had around 5 boxes now, 2 of which have been brilliant, one has been useless and the rest, ok but not great! The only downside to these beauty boxes is that you can't always guarantee you will like/use all your samples. In saying that, it has helped me save £££, as there have been some not so great products I possible woud have paid full price for just to trial! I chose Glossybox because I had heard many good things about it and seen several box reviews on Youtube which piqued my interest.
What's in the box?
Januarys box came out pretty late as they aimed to tie it into Valentines Day. As happy as I am with the content, I was expecting something completly different for this theme. To me, this box is more suited to a New Year pampering/rejuvination after the festive period. What do you think?
1. Eyeko skinny eyeliner
Full sized, worth £9.50. Not a brand I've tried before and I'm not big on eyeliners. I do however, really love the colour I recieved, 'midnight blue' and it has really great pigmentation. I little too intense for a day time look but perfect for a night out!
2. Clarins extra firming night cream
15ml sample, full size (50ml) is worth £48. I was about to go out the very day my box arrived to buy a new night treatment. I've never used Clarins before and wow, after using this I'm very tempted to buy full size! I have oily, acne prone skin and this has been amazing. In my 20's, I don't think I need a firming cream, but this has given my skin such a mattifyied, even apperance!
3. Clarins extra firming day cream
15ml sample, full size (50ml) worth £46.50. I loved being able to try the day and night creams together and they work in such perfect harmony. Again, I'd be tempted to purchase full size as this has made such a dramatic difference to my skin!
4. FAB body moisturizer
56.7g sample size, full size (226.8g) worth £10. I was sent a FAB facial cleanser in my December box that I fell in love with, so I'm eager to try more in this range. I love body moisturizers and use them daily. This is the perfect size for travel, and the bottle is very re-usable!
5. Murad hybrids skin perfecting primer.
5ml sample size, full size (30ml) worth £29. Have never used/heard of Murad before and looking up reviews online, this product didn't have the higest of ratings. Surprisingly, I actually quite like this product. It adapted well to my colouring (I'm quite pale) and my make up (Bare Esccentuals) sat nicely on top, with no shine or clumping. I wouldn't use it daily, but definalty for special occasions.
Total value of samples: £45.85
Cost of box: £10 + £2.50 p&p
Overall score: 6/10
