Glycolic Acid Wash - What Are The Benefits?
A glycolic acid face wash can be used daily to give a lovely glow to the skin. Glycolic acid is a natural acid that is found in plants and fruit and at low concentrations are very safe to use. As well as face washes it can be found in other products such as chemical peels, moisturizers, skin softeners and exfoliating agents.
How Does Glycolic Acid Work?
Glycolic acid is one of the alpha hydroxy acids, which also includes lactic acid and citric acid. It is a very small molecule and for this reason is useful in the treatment of skin problems. As it is so small it can easily penetrate the deeper layers of the skin where it can then loosen the bonds that hold the surface skin cells together. This then allows the dead cells to be removed easily leaving you with healthy, fresh looking skin.
The Benefits of Glycolic Acid
Glycolic acid can be used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, dry spots, skin discoloration and help to improve the look of skin for those who suffer from acne. As we get older, especially when skin has been exposed to the sun, the replacement of dead cells by newer cells slows down, leaving the dead skin cells on the surface of the skin much longer. This makes our skin look older. Glycolic acid skin care products are excellent for removing this layer and giving us more youthful looking skin. Once the skin has been exfoliated, glycolic acid increases the ability of the new skin to absorb moisturizers.
Be Careful of the Sun
After using a glycolic acid skin care product you should be careful about exposing your face to the sun as your skin will be more sensitive. You should always use a high factor sunscreen to prevent any damage.
Using a Glycolic Acid Face Wash
Although many of the glycolic acid products that you can buy have a fairly high concentration of glycolic acid, face washes have a low concentration and therefore are completely safe for anyone to use. The one exception to this is if you have any serious skin problems. You should talk to a dermatologist before you use this type of face wash although it is unlikely that these concentrations will cause any problems.
You use glycolic acid face wash on dry skin. Place a small amount on your skin and gently massage for a minute or two to allow time for it to work properly while carefully avoiding the eyes. You can then thoroughly rinse and apply a moisturizer. Although you will probably see an improvement in the condition of your skin in a few days you'll need to use the wash for a few weeks to see any significant improvement. The wash can be used once or twice a day. If you have sensitive skin it could be a good idea to alternate cleansing your skin with a milder product that does not contain glycolic acid.
A fabulous, oil-free, all-purpose gentle exfoliating cleanser containing glycolic acid. Helps reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and other signs of aging. Helps clarify the skin and smooth out a rough texture. For normal to oily skin, use daily. For dry or sensitive skin, use only two or three times a week.
Glycolic acid face washes have low levels of glycolic acid so there are unlikely to be any side effects. If you have very sensitive skin you may experience some irritation or reddening of the skin. In this case used to wash less often and rub it into the skin more gently.
Washes containing glycolic acid are safe to use and very effective if used regularly. Use a glycolic acid fash wash regularly to give you a healthy, glowing skin.
