Gothic Victorian Gowns

Why the Yearning for Gothic Victorian?

Nothing is more darkly romantic than a Gothic Victorian gown. Whether you're going to a special Gothic event or merely just taking a stroll in your local graveyard, here are some intriguing ideas for the perfect Gothic Victorian gown.

The Gothic Victorian look is growing popular in the Gothic communities more and more each year. But why? In my opinion, it is because of the elegant clothing, gorgeous architecture, and captivating literature that was produced in the Victorian era. Think of the stately Victorian homes in New England, think of the cascades of rich fabric used to make Victorian dresses, and think of the captivating romantic books written during that era. Now you may understand the pull towards Gothic Victorian style, especially the Gothic Victorian gowns.

It is somewhat difficult to find Gothic Victorian gowns that are of high quality and give off the air of a Goth. I have a few ideas, as I have searched the internet and catalogues for the best Gothic Victorian gowns and will be sharing these ideas with you.

Ideas to Find the Best Gothic Victorian Gowns

A great way to find that perfect Gothic Victorian gown is to buy a Steampunk Victorian gown and make it your own. Goth it up by adding a black cameo pin or macabre jewelry such as a skeleton necklace or vampire choker. Do you see the black bustled Victorian steampunk skirt above? How perfectly gothic could that be? Wear it with a black corset and a black-veiled Victorian hat and you have the quintessential Gothic Victorian gown look.

As it is so difficult to find high quality Gothic Victorian gowns on the internet, my suggestion is to also try www.etsy.com. Etsy has some of the prettiest and most Gothic Victorian gowns online. Two etsy shops right off the bat (pun intended) include Rose Mortem's Shop and KMKDesignsLLC. Rose Mortem is full-fledged gothic clothing, and you will be sure to find something morbidly lovely there, while KMKDesignsLLC has a little bit of everything including Steampunk Victorian gowns like the one posted to the right. Again, steampunk can be Gothic Victorian depending on how you wear it.

If you can't find a gothic victorian gown on etsy or amazon, try out romanticthreads.com. They have both steampunk and gothic Victorian gowns. They also have a ton of period costume which will be sure to tickle your Victorian fancy. Purchase a Victorian wedding gown or a Victorian funeral gown...or both from this unique and classy online shop.

To be honest, nothing thrills me more than to imagine myself in a velvet and lace gothic victorian gown, waiting in St. Louis Cemetery No. 1 in New Orleans for my dark, twisted vampire lover. In fact, I might have to go write a story or a song about it right now. But first, I need to find that perfect gothic Victorian gown to start weaving this fantasy into a reality.

Whether you're a woman of the darkside or a man who likes to play dress-up in gothic victorian gowns, just remember that you must have the essence of a Victorian woman. Strong, silent, yet empowered. And of course stunningly, necrotically gorgeous, darling.

Must-have Gothic Victorian Shoes & Accessories

You have your extremely elegant and seductive gothic victorian gown, but you still need the finishing touches. Some of my favorite things in the world to wear are Victorian boots. The way the toes come to a point remind me of a pair of witch's shoes. The way they lace up to the very top is old-world classy but makes me feel like a vampire. And the best thing is you can get them in almost every color now, and you don't have to pay a fortune for a pair of antique gothic Victorian boots. Check out some of the options I found below. They are affordable and sexy.

In addition to Victorian boots for your gothic Victorian gown, you have to have a pair of hot lace tights or stockings to match the look. You can get these in knee-high, thigh-high, or full versions. They come in white, black, off-white, pink, and even red. They are also affordable and really set off any gothic Victorian look.

Don't forget your black coffin purse or clutch for a night out on the town. You'll want to have some sort of bag to hold your fangs and such.

Wow Kitty! I love the red silky number that's last on your photos! Now even an older lass like me might achieve a wee bit of mysertious sultriness with that gown! I would love to dress up in these beautiful clothes - the gothic look has always fascinated me!

The Victorians did always get things right, but their clothes were stunning - especilly the blacks and reds in silk or taffeta!

Fascinating hub + voted up!

Thanks, WD Curry. I dig the music. I still don't think Backstreet Boys & Goth mix.

I am convinced that visionaries are forgiven much along with whoever else is in need of much forgiveness. I have a sense that you know a lot about forgiveness. You are a gifted teacher. Tell us what you know

Goth and Backstreet Boys? I am from Florida . . . closer than you presume. I may go on, later. I don't know.

The Goth look has always been popular. Look at all the trendy people who have black hair and nails. I love Goth dresses and the Goth look.

WD Curry - Funny enough that when I went to art school, I dressed quite similar to these lovely ladies! A little less Victorian & a little more artsy though. :)

You did a good job on this attractively laid out hub. I find it entertaining. I just want to say that I went to art school in the early seventies, and this reminds me of some of my friends who were not afraid to be different. They started a style or trend or something.
