Hairstyles with Bangs in the 1920s

Hairstyles with bangs or fringes became fashionable in the 1920s, when the flappers cut their hair short as a symbol of the changing status of women politically and socially.

The straight short bob hairstyle with full bangs was popularized by American silent film actress Louise Brooks, who carried over her straight full bangs hairstyle through the 1930s.

The "Louise Brooks bob" defines what a bob cut is and has been copied by thousands of female celebrities and women around the world.

So, how did the Cleopatra hairstyle with bangs came about?

In the 1934 Cecil B. DeMille classic movie Cleopatra, Claudette Colbert wore bangs because it was in fashion at the time and she liked bangs.

And, in the 1963 remake of Cleopatra, bangs were "in" again, so Elizabeth Taylor wore bangs.

Hiya vibesites, I'm glad you enjoyed reading my bangs hub and found it useful. When I was a kid, my father used to cut my hair really short with very short full bangs. I thought it was ugly! Ok, I was ugly in the first place.. I said was. LOL Thank you so much for leaving me a lovely comment and thanks for your votes. Cheers!

Have a nice day,

Rosie

@lovedoctor926 - I used to wear my hair long with part in the middle just like yours for years. When my husband passed away, my sister-in-law cut my hair short so I'd look younger.. didn't look any younger, but I liked it. :D Thanks for dropping by and leaving me a lovely comment. I'm glad you enjoyed reading my bangs hub. Cheers!

@freefogging - Thanks for dropping by and very sorry for the late reply. I'm not active here on HP anymore. I'm sure you look lovely with bangs. I'm glad you liked my bangs hub and found it informative. Cheers!

@Kerry43 - I agree, Olivia Wilde looks better without bangs, although with bangs, she looks very trendy. I'm glad you enjoyed reading my bangs hub. Thanks for the vote up. Cheers!

Have a nice day ya'all,

Rosie

Awesome hub! I used to wear bangs in highschool. In college, I let my hair grow out and I've had it like this ever since. Here in Miami, most women have the straight dark long hair parted in the middle. It's good that bangs are making a comeback because the same hair style does get boring! I like sandra bullock's look. voted up!

Informative hub. I have an oblong...long face shape and I have had bangs forever. I hate to show my huge forehead!! Thanks for the interesting article!

Voted up, thanks Rosie!

Is it just me or does Olivia Wilde look so much prettier without the bangs? Usually I find it's the other way around, for my taste anyway. I do think a fringe that is too short looks ghastly :/

Thanks for sharing with us, excellent read :)

So great to see this! My problem is that I'm not sure they'll work for my age and facial structure. However, I see you've included the photo shot I saw of Jamie Lee Curtis that had me wondering if I could combine her bangs with longer hair! Great hub!

Hiya Joyce, thanks for dropping by. Sorry to hear about your left hand problem. I'm glad you like your Michelle Williams pixie hair.. I have fine hair too. I used to wear long hair, but after my husband died, my sister and my sister-in-law ganged up on me and cut my hair short to make me look younger. lol

I'm glad you enjoyed reading my hub on hairstyles with bangs. Thanks so much for the votes. Cheers!

Great hub, my chin length hair had be to cut the Michelle Williams length because of a left hand problem which is my main hand. Now it's cut I'm falling in love with easiness of it. No more 40 minutes in the bathroom just to drive and style. Oh yes! And another thing I have really fine hair.

Voted up, useful and interesting your friend, Joyce.
