History of Cartier
The Cartier watch company was crated in Paris, still in the 19th century, more precisely on 1847. Its founder, Louis-Francois Cartier, was a specialist on the design of fine watches and jewlry. He brought all his knowledge of beaultiful jewlry into the world of watches. He also intended to create a line of timepieces that were among the most luxurious in the world.
Since the beginning of the 20th century, the Cartier company is responsible for supplying watches to some of the most famous people, incling many heads of state.
Invention of wristwatch
Cartier developed what is considered to be the first wristwatch. The collection, names Santos after the Brazilian inventor that popularized the concept of wristwatch, quickly because one of the biggest successes of the company.
The story says that the Brazilian Santos Dummont, who was one of the precussors of aviation, used Cartier wristwatches to record flight times during the operation of one of his airplanes. That way, he didn't have to take his hands to the pocket. The concept of using writswatches then quickly became popular.
