Homemade beauty solutions...natural skincare recipes for dry skin

The skin like the body is one of our most important possessions that we are given from birth and have for the rest of our lives, so it makes good sense to maintain the health of your skin like you maintain the health of your body.

The use of skincare dates back thousands of years, but the steps stay basically the same today, Cleanse, tone, exfoliate and moisturize, making our own skincare products, like our ancestors is surprisingly simple and cost affordable, (with nearly all the ingredients found in most kitchens)

Making your own all natural skincare at home can be a lot of fun with very satisfying results for the small amount of time you will spend.

Check out the following homemade skincare recipes for cleansers, toners, scrubs and moisturizers all for the dry skin type

Homemade Cleanser for dry skin

One of the most important aspects of skin care is the facial cleanser, for maximum results a cleanser should always be used twice a day, first in the morning to remove the toxins released form your body as you slept and again at night to remove the dirt and grime that we don’t see.

These homemade cleansers recipes for dry skin are a great option for those looking to try something more natural with their skincare, so treat yourself today

Chamomile soothing milk cleanser

¼ cup of cream

¼ cup of milk

2 Tablespoons of chamomile (I prefer fresh, but you can use dried)

Step One. Heat the above the ingredients in a double boiler saucepan for 30 minutes but DON’T boil

Step Two. Leave to sit for 2 hours before straining.

Step three. Pour straight into a sterilized container or bottle and keep in the fridge

Step four. Use by applying to face in upward circular motions as you massage the cleanser into your face before rinsing thoroughly

Note can keep in the fridge for up to 2 weeks and is also a great cleanser for sensitive skin

Honey cleanser for dry skin

2 teaspoons of honey

¼ cup of whole milk

2 teaspoons of almond oil

Step one. Combine the above ingredients and mix well

Step two. Use by applying over the face and neck in an upward circular motion and let it sit for a minute or two before washing off

Kiwi fruit cleansing cream

1 kiwi fruit

2 tablespoons of plain yogurt

1 tablespoon of almond oil

1 tablespoon of honey

1 teaspoon of finely ground almonds (or meal)

Step one. Puree the peeled kiwi fruit in a blender or food processer

Step two. Add the yogurt and the rest of the ingredients and mix well until it forms a thick creamy paste.

Step three. Use by applying over the face in upward circular motions, and rinse thoroughly with warm water

Almond and milk cleanser

½ teaspoon of milk powder

¼ teaspoon of sugar

1 teaspoon of almond meal

1 teaspoon of warm water

Step one. Mix all the dry ingredients together in a small bowl

Step two. Stir in the warm water to make a smooth paste

Step three. Use by applying to face and neck, leave it to dry before rinsing off.

Cleanser for extra dry skin

1 teaspoon of Aloe Vera gel

1 teaspoon of honey

1 egg yolk

Step One. Mix the Aloe Vera gel together with the honey and egg yolk in a small bowl

Step Two. Apply to face and neck in a circular upwards motion and leave for 5 minutes before washing off with warm water. Pat dry

Homemade Toners for dry skin

A good toner is meant to tighten the skin and reduce the appearance of open pores, generally used after a cleanser and before the moisturizer. It’s a wonderful refreshing step to your daily skin care routine. As most store brought toners contain alcohol and can be harsh to already dry skin, a lot of people with dry skin miss this step going straight to the moistener, Missing out on all the benefits the right toner can give.

Making your own homemade toner can be a great option for those with dry skin, eliminating the harsh alcohol and chemicals, by using only natural products meant to help hydrate and nourish your skin.

Making these homemade recipes is a lot easier than most would think, and the results can be quite satisfying for the small amount of effort involved.

Rose water

Restore skins Ph. And balance as well as giving your skin a fresh healthy glow.

Two cups of rose petals (tightly packed)

2 and ½ cups of distilled water (may need a little more depending)

Step one. Place rose petals in a heavy bottom saucepan and cover with distilled water

Step two. Simmer until the liquid half of the liquid is left let it cool (around 45 minutes I find) before pouring into a sterilized bottle or jar

Step three. Uses by dipping cotton ball into your homemade toner and applying to the face gently in upward circular motions.

Note, will last for 2 weeks in stored in fridge, 2-3 day if left in bathroom, Makes a great toner for all skin types and is very simple to make at home (especially if you grow your own roses)

Honey and lemon toner

1 egg white

1 teaspoon of lemon juice, or pineapple

1 teaspoon of pure honey

Step One. Whisk the egg white until it thickens

Step Two. Add the juice and the honey whisk until well combined

Step three Use by applying to the face and neck (being careful to avoid the sensitive lip and eye area) Leave on for 10 minutes and rinse thoroughly with warm water followed with a splash of cold water

Cucumber and honey toner

1 cucumber

½ teaspoon of honey

Step One. Peel and slice cucumber and place in a blender or food processor and puree

Step Two. Strain the cucumber so only the juice is left (cheesecloth or coffee filters seem to work best)

Step Three. Mix in the honey and stir gently, Pour into a sterilized plastic bottle.

Step Four. Before use always shake before applying to cotton ball and using on face and neck

Skin is your body's largest organ. It serves as a protective barrier between your insides and the rest of the world, helps regulate body temperature and acts as a filter. Skin exists in a constant state of growth, with old cells dying as new cells are forming. It's affected by every aspect of your life, from what you eat to where you live. Healthy skin is better able to fight signs of aging, heals much faster and staves off potential disease better than unhealthy skin

To keep your face looking as youthful as possible, you need to properly cleanse, exfoliate and moisturize your skin while never leaving the house without at least 30 SPF sunscreen. But before we go there, how you care for your skin is utterly dependent on the type of skin you have: oily, normal/combination, dry, sensitive or sun- damaged.
