How To Clean Your Coach Purse

Updated on December 18, 2008

The Internet is a fabulous place to get great information but only if you can find it. Sometimes, I just get so frustrated looking for information only to dead end into pages stuffed with affiliate links and no real content or sites that all say the same thing – one repeating paragraph of information does not add value to the internet. In addition, forums and blogs are excellent places to find out stuff from real people with real stories but let’s face it – it takes time to go through all the posts and sometimes you just do not have that much time to get info. You want the info now so you need so you can get on with life.

I feel your pain, so I’ve put together some of my personal Coach purse cleaning research for you. Hopefully this will help. Basically you have four options –

1. Check with the store from which you bought the purse

2. Pay a professional (Be careful, not all drycleaners will work)

3. A do it yourself cleaning concoction

4. Use the Coach recommended cleaners

Store Service

Some stores which carry the Coach brand also offer purse cleaning as a follow up service to the customer. Nordstrom is one of these stores. Call the store from which you purchased your purse to see if this is a possibility. This follow up customer service can also be considered when making your purchase. If you are planning to keep your purse for a long time, then you may want to purchase from a place that provides this customer care.

Pay to Have Your Purse Professionally Cleaned

Professionally cleaning a purse is different from dry cleaning garments. If you are looking to your local drycleaner to do the cleaning, you need to ask if the company has experience cleaning purses. I would also suggest a reference or two from satisfied customers before you hand over your designer bag. Purse cleaning needs to be done manually so make sure the drycleaner will clean your bag in this manner. Check out bodaciousbag.com/blog to see our latest information on professional purse cleaners.

A Do It Yourself Concoction

Yes, it is true you can find solutions to just about anything online. There are lots of people with lots of opinions and suggestions. This vast array of information is a great benefit to the ever-evolving Internet. You can find out all kinds of ways people have tried to clean their purses at home. For the cloth bags, using a light colored cloth, warm water, and a gentle soap was the most frequently found solution. A light colored cloth is to be stressed! Try a small test area with anything you try. Shout wipes was also used for a spot stain. The forums referenced suede cleaners found on eBay, but none was specially stated at being the best. Coach does make a suede cleaner. Others washed their bags in the washing machine. The washing machine approach makes me a bit nervous, but I guess it works for some people.

Coach Recommended Cleaners

The Coach Company sells cleaners specifically for each type of its handbags. These cleaners cost $10 when purchased directly from the Coach store. In reference to the amount you spend on a handbag, a $10 cleaner to keep your handbag looking great seems like a real deal to me. Replacing your bag because of a botched do-it-yourself experiment will cost much more. On the official Coach website it gives you instructions on how to clean the different types of bags. Although the site gives really great information, it can be a bit hard to find so I brought it all here for you. If you want to look at the information directly from the site here is the link to Coach purse cleaning recommendations.

How can I clean my Coach product?

We make our products with various types of fabrics and leathers. The smooth leather can be cleaned with our Coach Cleaner and Moisturizer Set. The signature jacquard fabric can be cleaned with our Coach Signature Fabric Cleaner. We do not suggest the cleaners or moisturizer be used on ink, grease or oil stains. We offer a brush and eraser to clean our Nubuc products.

Sig C Fabric Cleaner:

Directions:

Apply a small amount of cleaner to a clean soft white cloth and rub in gentle circular motions. Wipe away excess with a clean white dampened cloth. Blot dry with a clean white cloth and allow to air dry completely before reuse. For best results, use product sparingly and blot dry completely after cleaning to minimize wetting the surface and to reduce the likelihood of leaving rings. The Sig C Fabric Cleaner can be used for the following collections, which are crafted in signature jacquard fabric that has been specially treated to be water and stain repellant:
