Zooey Deschanel Style

This year, I started watching the television show "New Girl." I think it is so cute! One of my main motivations for starting to watch it at all is my love for Zooey Deschanel! She's funny, quirky, and has a terrific sense of style. I often find myself wondering how to dress like her.

I have noticed that her style is just an extension of her personality. When I think about other aspects of her life and personality, I realize she loves old and classic things. Her music even sounds like it's from a different era. It's simple and lovely mixed with interesting and unique.

When you think about her retro style, you have to think of what was worn back in the day. Cigarette pants, dresses and tights, Mary-Jane shoes, ballet flats. These are all key in pieces in her style wardrobe. Then she'll throw in a wild card every once in a while to keep things interesting. I just saw her in a romper that was a very retro cut, but I don't think rompers themselves were popular back in the 40's and 50's.

My go-to place to find things like this is Anthropologie, or stores similar to Anthropologie. They have such unique pieces that are classic and very vintage feeling. Many of the items are hand-made.

But Anthropologie can be a bit pricey. Another trick to finding unique pieces is to go to thrift stores like Good Will. If you're willing to dig, you can find gems that are undiscovered by most people.

Or, you can start making things yourself. I'm sure you have items in your closet that you might be ready to get rid of. Why not try to make something out of them. Pintrest is a wonderful place to find inspiration for DIY projects. I recently just made myself a pearl and ribbon necklace (and trust me, if I can do it, you can do it!).

In any case, I hope you get inspired to find your own unique style by taking these elmenets and fitting them to your lifestyle, mood, and situation.
