Lemon works as a natural bleach and it can fade away dark spots on the skin. Simply mix equal parts of lemon juice and water and dab it on the hyper-pigmented (darker) spots. Leave it on the skin for about 10 minutes and then rinse off with lukewarm water. For best results do this 2-3 times a day.
The mint leave made into a paste is another simple method you can use to make your skin lighter. Blend enough mint leaves to make a fresh paste and apply on the face. Leave the mint paste on the skin for about 20 minutes.
(You could take advantage of this time to sit quietly in a warm spot; taking the opportunity to relax and perhaps catch up on some reading or just close your eyes.)
At the end of the 20 minutes, gently wash the paste off the skin with warm water. Not only does this paste lighten the skin but it will give it a lovely texture as well.
Potato is another natural food that has bleaching properties and is a common natural way for lightening the skin. It acts as a bleaching agent that lightens patches, blemishes and any dark skin. Here is another opportunity to have a moment or three to relax. Take thin slices of fresh potato and apply to the affected skin and leave them on for about 30 minutes. This allows the skin to absorb the juice and lightens the skin. At the end of the 30 minutes rinse and pat dry.

A honey yogurt mask is another natural way to bleach the skin safely that can be used to help fade dark acne spots and lighten your skin.
To make ~ Mix two spoons of yogurt, one teaspoon of honey and two tablespoons of cooked oatmeal together. Apply the mixture evenly on the face and leave it to dry. Another chance to put your feet up and relax. Anytime I've put on a mask on my face, I've taken the option of having a bubble bath at the same time to maximize the effects and just luxuriate!

Aloe Vera is a powerful astringent and can be directly applied to any acne spots you may have. It has natural anti-bacterial and anti-septic properties and it can be safely used it as a natural acne treatment. Apply it as needed till your acne fades. (It is also great for any skin condition, especially sunburn. It has a cooling effect on my skin when I have used it for mild sunburn.)
Turmeric and Lime:
Another common way you can lighten your skin is by using turmeric and lime. Apply a mixture of turmeric and lime on the affected areas and leave it on for 10 minutes before gently washing it off with warm water. Both lime and turmeric have bleaching properties and their regular use can help produce a more flawless, lighter skin complexion.
Oddly enough eggs are also excellent for lightening the skin, especially if you have oily skin like me.
To prepare ~ separate the egg white from egg yolk. Beat the egg white till frothy. Rub it gently on the face and neck. Wait till it is dry then wash it off the face gently with warm water.
Egg whites work as a moisturizer for oily skin as well as helping lighten post-inflammatory hyper-pigmentation.
Post-Inflammatory Hyper-Pigmentation What Is It?
One of the most common skin ailments affecting people everywhere in the world is acne.
What is acne and what does it have to do with post-inflammatory hyper-pigmentation?
Acne results from clogged pores that become inflamed with fast growing bacteria. Even after the acne has healed the post-inflammatory scars can continue to be seen.
When the skin darkens as a result of the healing process this is called Post-inflammatory Hyper-pigmentation. This happens because the skin's response to inflammation is to stimulate melanocytes which discolor and darken the skin.
Generally these darkened areas will lighten over time, but for those who wish to speed up the process to lighten their skin, natural home remedies can be a safe way of slowing melanin production and make acne scars appear much lighter.
