Jackie Kennedy Mothers Day Gift - Favorite Piece of Jewelry
Jackie Kennedy was one of the world's wealthiest and most renown women. Her jewelry collection was extensive and included priceless pieces from gifts of state from the years she spend living in the White House. Yet, one piece and one moment in her life was very special and momentous.
This single piece of jewelry signifies the most moving moment of Jackie Kennedy's life and is said to be her most prized possession not just a piece of jewelry. In her will, only one piece of jewelry was mentioned - out of her entire collection - from wedding rings, engagement presents, gifts of state (grand gifts of state I might add including pieces from Catherine the Great in 22k solid gold!).
This one piece of jewelry above all others was special to Jackie. In fact, in her will, she detailed that one special piece of jewelry, known as the Dual Berry Pin would be placed upon permanent display a the JFK Library.
It is very important to note, no other piece of jewelry was mentioned in her will. This one piece summarized the importance of Jackie's life and defined her life. Why? Read on. Understand the emotions tied to this one piece. Understand the significance she attached this beautiful and elegant piece. One piece among perhaps hundreds if not thousands of pieces of jewelry she had received throughout her life.
Jackie Quotes on Motherhood
If you bungle raising your children, I don't think whatever else you do well matters very much.
Now, I think that I should have known that he was magic all along. I did know it - but I should have guessed that it would be too much to ask to grow old with and see our children grow up together. So now, he is a legend when he would have preferred to be a man.
Even though people may be well known, they hold in their hearts the emotions of a simple person for the moments that are the most important of those we know on earth: birth, marriage and death. Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis
Your Mother and Mine - Beautiful Song
If you know anything about Jackie, you know the great pride she took in her children. She felt her main purpose in life was raising her children. And while her husband's quotes often out-shadowed Jackie's quotes, such as this one about children:
“Children are the world's most valuable resource and its best hope for the future”. John Fitzgerald Kennedy quote
Jackie's public statements frequently reflect the importance she felt and the duty she felt to her children.
The Dual Berry Pin Provenance
The dual berry pin was a gift from JFK, the 44th President of the United States of America.
Caroline Kennedy born November 27, 1957 and JFK, Jr. was born November 25, 1960.
The pin signifies the two children.
JFK Jr., John F. Kennedy Jr., died tragically in airplane crash July 16, 1999, four years after the death of his famous Mother.
Dual Berry Mothers Day Pin Worn for Important Visits of State
She wore this pin for important trips such as visits of state to Canada and Vienna, Soviet Union.
The red outfit she wore for the Royal Canadian Guard was made from the same material of the royal Canadian uniforms! The suit was specifically designed by Oleg Cassini and was intentionally chosen to match!
Often in photos, I noted that Jackie would wear both this favorite pin with her favorite and very famous 3 strand pearl necklace
Special Box for Dual Berry Pin
Philip Katz, the historian for the replica jewelry produced by Camrose and Kross for Jackie's Jewelry stated that even the box was special. Within the box was a pillow. The replica piece includes a box with an identical pillow. The replica piece is from the Jacqueline Kennedy Collection and is available through QVC or JackiesJewelry.com. The details of the piece:
Goldtone - 24K electroplate, Joint and catch pin closure, Measures approximately 2"L x 1-3/8"W, Box, romance card, Manufacturer's Certificate of Authenticity.
Dual Berry Pin
"A Mother's Day Gift from JFK for the Birth of John F. Kennedy Jr. (November 27, 1960). Along with her Wedding Bracelet, this pin is one of Jackie most prized possessions. The Berry Pin is kept at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library in Boston, behind bullet-proof glass. Though he was organizing his new Presidential Administration at the time of his son's birth, JFK found the time to go to New York to have this gift made to order for Jackie. The pin was presented to a pleasantly surprised Jackie on January 10, 1961, ten days before he took office. Jackie would sometimes wear the pin, which she now called "My Berry Pin", with the berries up and sometimes with the berries down (as you see above). She was so proud of the pin, and its special charm, that she wore the pin on her first trip abroad as First Lady , to Canada in May 1961. This pin, though on permanent exhibition at the JFK Library, is still owned by Caroline, who will never give up an heirloom of such personal importance, especially now that her brother, JFK Jr., has passed away. This magnificent replica is made entirely with hand-set and hand-polished Swarovski crystals. Even the box is special. This is the only piece in the line that sits in it's own pillow. The box's pad is hand made to match the form of the individual pin, just like Jackie's."
Happy Mothers Day
Hundreds of dewdrops to greet the dawn,
Hundreds of bees in the purple clover,
Hundreds of butterflies on the lawn,
But only one mother the wide world over.

The real religion of the world comes from women much more than from men - from mothers most of all, who carry the key of our souls in their bosoms. ~Oliver Wendell Holmes
God could not be everywhere and therefore he made mothers. ~Jewish Proverb

Of God, at price no man may dare

Release of 1964 Interviews with Jackie Kennedy
The Associated Press has reported that interviews that Jackie Kennedy gave in 1964 will now be released.
Caroline Kennedy has published several books with Hyperion, including a collection of her mother's favorite poems, and has worked for years with editor Gretchen Young, who acquired the book and audio and electronic rights. Kennedy's literary representative, Washington attorney Robert Barnett, declined to discuss specific financial terms, but said there was no auction for the book. Proceeds will be shared with the Kennedy library foundation, based in Boston.
"These interviews offer a remarkable window into the intelligent, courageous and keen observer that Jacqueline Kennedy was," Hyperion president and publisher Ellen Archer said in a statement. "Readers will be riveted."
The interviews are a key part of the library's planned celebration of the anniversary of the Kennedy inaugural.

Caroline very much shares that spirit, but she would say that by doing an estate plan that gives lots to the children, she can ensure that the next generation of Kennedys will be making these judgments. That was very much in Caroline's mind - carrying on her mother's tradition and passing it down to her children. And each of the children will hopefully be imbued with the Kennedy philosophy," he said. He also said:
