Make A Necklace With A Shell Pendant

Updated on September 7, 2016

It is quite simple to make a necklace with a shell pendant. First, you will need to select a shell pendant that you would like to use for your necklace. Shell pendants can be purchased at the craft store, but you could also use one that you find at a second hand store. Also, perhaps you can take a shell found at the beach turn it into a pendant for your necklace. If you decide to purchase a shell pendant at the craft store, keep in mind you will also need to select beads to go with your shell pendant. The supplies I used for making this necklace consist of:

  • beading wire
  • acrylic clear and white beads
  • beading wire cutters
  • jewelry pliers
  • a necklace clasp.
  • mother of pearl shell pendant

I already had purchased all of my supplies in previous years, so this craft really did not cost any extra for me. Yes, you will have to spend a little bit of money upfront to buy the needed supplies for making a necklace, but this is cheaper than buying a comparable necklace at a department store. Also, making your own necklace means it is personalized to your taste, and will express your own sense of style. It is easy to make stunning jewelry with shell pendants, and you just have to start with a simple project. Personally, I prefer making simple jewelry anyway because this is less time consuming, and it is rewarding to make my own attractive pieces of jewelry.

Look at the pictures below to see each step in the process of making the shell pendant necklace.

Add the shell pendant to the beading wire. I attached the pendant to a jump ring, so it could hang from the jewelry wire.

Add a small white bead to each side of the necklace. I did that when I did not have enough beads for the clear, white, clear, white pattern.

My favorite aspect of this shell necklace is the iridescent glow of the mother of pearl pendant. It looks so much more expensive than the five dollars I paid for it at the crafting store. The creativity and economy behind making you own jewelry is being able to save money, and look more lavish while doing it. Most of the necklaces I make by hand are simple, and I let the beads and the pendants do the talking.
