Natural Skin Care from your Kitchen

Most of the women spend a fortune on beauty. We try just about anything to make us more beautiful. But these beauty products are either expensive or not effective. When we are tired of all the over-the-counter beauty products that promises us an instant effect which by the way didn’t happen most of the time, here are some of the easy, no-fuss solutions to some of the beauty problems that you may have:

Hair & Scalp

  • Dandruff – Use tomato juice in your hair, it soothes dry, itchy scalp by removing the scales and replaces its pH balance.

  • Dry Hair – Mayonnaise works well as a deep conditioning treatment mask. Mayonnaise has egg yolks that supply the hair with protein, vinegar that normalizes the pH balance of your hair, and vegetable oils that lubricate hair follicles.

  • Dull Hair – Pure fruit juices bring back life and color into your hair. Pure lemon juice brings out the shine and enhances the highlights in all hair types. Cranberry juice brings out the highlights in dark brown hair.

Eyes

  • Dark under eye circles / eye puffiness – Apply ice cubes, cold water, tea, wet tea bags, milk or slices of either cucumber or potatoes over your eyes. Let it stay for about 10 minutes to allow the delicate tissues under your eyes to tighten and shrink to normal.
  • Tired eyes – Saturate a huge piece of cotton with cold milk, place it over your eyes and relax for 15 minutes. Rinse afterwards. Or you can use an ice cube, composes of water and chamomile tea. To make this, fill an ice tray w/ water halfway then pour up chamomile tea to make up the other half. Freeze. Then just rub around your eyes when your eyes feel tired.

Face & Skin

  • Wrinkles and lines – Smooth wrinkles and lines on your forehead by applying cooking oil or olive oil on them. Oil contains fatty acids similar to the composition of the skin fat and therefore complements the skin.
  • Low surface blackheads – exfoliate using cornmeal, oatmeal or sea salt.

  • Deep-seated blackheads – Put on a facial mask that is made up of some mixture of 2 tbsp cornmeal, 2 tbsp sesame oil and 5 tbsp of plain yogurt. Apply this on your face for seven consecutive days.
  • Dry facial skin – Make a cornmeal scrub by mixing two teaspoons of cornmeal with just enough honey to make a paste. Using your fingertips, apply the concoction on your face with circular motion. Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water. This will lift up dead skin cells and give way to new, fresh, and rosy skin.
  • Flaky skin – Just rub either avocado or lemon on affected areas and let it stay for 15 minutes. You can also use egg yolk for this purpose.

Hey hey hey if you think you have no time for these things and you have some extra money for your improvements, there are a lot of products in the market which you can easily buy, but always remember there’s no better way to do it other than to go natural.

Great. Do you have any good suggestion for my TANNED Face.

And what do you want to do with your "tanned" face? to lighten!?! There were a lot of people who want a good tan, some pay for it to have one. On the second thought there were a lot of dark ones who want to lighten. Ok if that's what you want...you can use the mixture of milk and calamansi/lemon. lol!

I've actually tried putting mayonnaise on my hair.  I smelled like a salad for days! :D  I've also tried rinsing my hair with cider vinegar to remove shampoo buildup.  It gave my hair an orange tinge. :)

I've been wanting to try the cucumbers on the eyes.  Maybe that can be my next experiment. :P

It is not dark but comparatively darker than rest of the body.

Hi teacher Susan, maybe you should try rinsing with a much more sweet-smelling shampoo, to lessen the unpleasant odor.

As for the cucumber; it has a cooling effect that feels so good on the eyes. Try it; it’s always good to experiment once in a while. =)

Hi Guidebaba,

Um ok, so you’re serious about that. =) Well other than the mixture of milk and lemon, you can also use the egg white mask; it can whiten skin and tighten pores. First, crack the egg and put it on a small bowl, remove the yolk then get a brush and use it to apply the egg white on your face or you can use your finger, just make sure you don’t have allergies with egg. If you’ll ask me I prefer the milk and lemon, it will also make your skin softer and smells yummy too. =)

Oh, I did shampoo and condition my hair everyday after that. :) By the way, do you know any natural ways to straighten hair and remove frizz? :) My hair used to be super straight when I was younger, now it has a soft wave and the ends jut out all over the place. :(

Hi Charia, I found myself giggling when I read your hub. Once my eyes were all puffy and a friend of mine (Hubber Dayzeebee) helped me by putting on tomatoes on my eyes. I was protesting all the while saying, "I think we should use cucumber not tomatoes." She said that it's okay since it is of the same family. It was a terrible feeling and we ended up laughing so hard. Hahaha Now I see you could also use potatoes? Gee, I will tell her that esp. the next time we run out of cucumber.

Hi teacher Susan, that's also my problem, you know my hair is kinda wavy but I don't think there's a "natural" way to straighten. If you don't like hair straightening/relaxing/rebonding because it contains chemicals that is damaging to your hair, maybe you can use a hair dryer or flat iron as it is less damaging. Just always remember to have it condition or treat it with hot oil at least once a month.

Hi teacher Michelle, Hahaha really, that's funny! Actually you can also use tomatoes but you should mix it with lemon and flour to make a paste.

Put simply this is great! I think we are on the same page. :) There are so many websites reviewing the latest skin care products that cost a fortune, but then if you read the customers comments too, you may find genuine gemstones. Thanks. :)

True indeed! If we just make some time for these then we won't spend much on the latest skin care products; but I think the girls are more patient with this kind of things, lol! Peace! =)

Nice tips. There was a segment on TV tonight about skin care from the kitchen. So many people overlook what's already there!

Yes you are right, notorious_HAI. But maybe some people are not aware of it, don't have time for it or maybe too lazy to do it. lol!

Btw, thanks for your visit! =)

From all the comments you've, you can assign yourself the beauty guru--love all the advice you gave and is still giving. I'm love all things natural too, so we're definitely on the same page.

Since reading your hub on home tricks to radiant skin, I've been using your honey/milk concoction--very easy and I think it works. Since then, I've been experimenting with my own. I've come up with an avocado moisturizing mask--want to try?

A beauty guru?!?! no no no, I'm far from that. Thank you that you enjoyed this.

An avocado mask? I'll try it when I'm done eating some of it. I love avocado, yummy yummy. =)

I really like the tips here. I hear tomato is way good for your scalp and hair. I don't know if it's true, but I hear that if you apply it like once or twice a week and leave it in for like 15 minutes it's supposed to help hair growth. My mom would apply it on me when I was little because my hair just wouldn't grow. I don't remember if it made a difference because I was only like 4 yrs. old. LOL!

I think I've always suffered from hair loss and thin hair though and I'm really looking for something that will help stimulate hair growth and prevent hair loss. Do you have any ideas?

Charia Samher profile image

Charia Samher 7 years ago Author

Thanks Grecia, glad you've liked it. I have an article about hair loss http://hubpages.com/hub/Hair-loss-why-is-it-most-c... I have included there some of the remedies; but as for a natural way to do it I suggest you to use shampoo that contains castile (from olive oil),decyl polyglucose (from corn), nourishing botanicals jojoba, rosemary, nettle, horsetail, sage and/or chamomile.
