Review of Dollar Shave Club

Updated on August 20, 2015
Source

I happened to ’stumble Upon’ something pretty interesting the other day. While surfing the Internet for some good content after plugging one of my new hubs into StumbleUpon, this video popped up and caught my attention. I hope you enjoyed it and found it as humorous as I did!

About The Club

This is genius! Well at least I think so and I'll tell you why. I'm a guy. I hate shopping. I hate shaving. The thought of the two together really makes me sick. Have you noticed how expensive it is to get a decent razor blade? I must check this place out called dollarshaveclub.com

Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. While some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do. - Apple Inc.

I think of this quote often when I see something interesting yet so silly like this. As a matter of fact I love my personal business I own because it seems so crazy or impossible to most, but it is so simple it's silly. I have a feeling this is going to be the case with dollarshaveclub.com.

As soon as you get to the website, you'll quickly notice that the humor in the commercial above is carried throughout the website. I like this since I feel like I am being entertained instead of sold. Plus who cares about tennis stars anyway? Wait...there was that Anna Kornikova girl...oh never mind!

Under the description of the blades the offer a few different choices. The first if called The Executive, a six blade razor with aloe, guide fins, and is described to be from the future and lives in outer space. At $9 a month for this gizmo I think it can stay there.

The second choice offered seems to be more up my alley. The 4x, aka The Lovers Blade, is designed for both male and female users so you can share your subscription of $6 a month with a loved one. it is described as

  • A gentle shave in a single stroke
  • 4-Stainless-steel blades
  • Wide, open-back for fast, easy rinse
  • Full 90-degree pivot head hugs the turns, surges you onward
  • You will love this razor; and your girlfriend can use it too

The last option offered is the The Humble Twin. It is a basic precision 2 blade model offered at $1 a month plus shipping and handling. Please notice I didn't say that with the others since shipping and handling is included with the other models. It also adds that it isn't available until August 10th. I'm cool with that, I ordered the 4x “Lovers Blade” since it was closer to the Gillete Fusion model I was currently using and just about out of.

My Package Arrived

About a week or two later a received my little brown package. The package contained my very nice new blade handle, 4 of the 4x blades in the standard plastic holding case I'm used to and my membership card. You will have to find out what the membership card is good for on your own, I don't want to spoil everything. Another important feature to note is what it is missing. It is not wrapped in a hard plastic that I need to find a blade to get to my blades! I love this!!

I'm exited to try this really nice blade out for myself but it's not time to shave yet so it has to wait till I have to. Remember I don't enjoy it.

Now please note that I am not a professional razor reviewer but I am about to answer the question we want the answer too. Just how f***ing great are they? It is an awesome blade to use. It really put my other razors I have owned to shame. The handle and blades are made with great quality. The shaving process was the smoothest I have experienced yet. I'm not sure if I will be able to share this with my loved ones. I am going to keep my $6 a month subscription to the 4x blade. Thank you Dollar Shave Club for changing the way I buy and use razor blades. Something I do everyday should not have to be so hard and expensive.

Sept 2012 Update

Hi! I just wanted to check back and give you an update. The service has been awesome for me! The only thing I noticed was a was starting to pile up on my blades so I was thinking I may eventually need to put my account on hold so I can catch up with using the blades they sent me. They must have heard me! They now have a "not so hairy" option which changes the shipping from monthly to every other month. I think that may work out great for more savings on my part!
