80s Shoes Trends

There are some things people remember about the 1980s, and the shoes are one of them. People of that era remember the shoes that the children wore, and the shoes that the adults wore as well. The 80s shoes were some-what different than they are now. And some shoes wore in the 80s are still in-style today.

Most of the 80s trends came from watching television shows, commercials, and music videos. And some 80s fashion trends came from the people in our environment. In the 80s, if there were famous people on TV that wore high-water pants (Michael Jackson), then it would become a fashion trend. What people wore in the 80s mainly came from TV or their environment. Some people remember the 'Alligator shirts,' and some remember the Jheri-Curls that some Black people wore in their hair.

Most people in the 80s got fashion trend ideas from TV shows like: Different Strokes, Dynasty, Silver Spoons, Miami Vice, Family Ties, The Facts of Life, etc. And there were also music videos that had an effect on the 80s shoe and clothes trend. The music videos that helped with the fashion trends of the 80 were: Madonna, Michael Jackson, Boy George, Cindy Lauper, Jody Watley, Prince, Duran Duran, and others.

Shoes Worn in the 80s

Shoes worn in the 80s were fun to wear, at least the children thought so. Some children didn't get to wear all the name brand shoes back in the 80s, some children had to wear shoes from the grocery stores. These shoes were called 'bubble yums' by other children making-fun of their shoes. Parents in low income areas had to buy shoes that they could afford, for the time being. As a child I'm glad to have owned pairs of: LA Gears, Crayons, Jellies, Click Clacks, Pumas, K-Swiss, Reebok, Lotto's, and other name brand shoes. The 80s shoes bring back good memories for many people of the decade or era.

80s Trends

The fashion trends of the 80s were popular then, and some of the 80s fashion trends are popular today. Some people wore 'airbrushing' art on nearly all clothing items during the 80s decade. People also wore big chunk jewelry as necklaces, bracelets, anklets, rings; wearing 14 karate gold was the trend. Also the named brand blue jeans were really popular; jeans were worn: stoned washed, stretched, bell bottom, skinny jean, etc. Eighties accessories were Hot! also, the belts were a huge fashion statement as well. Some belts worn with the jeans were made of snakeskin, in many colors. The snakeskin style was worn not only in belts but in; purses, shoes, snakeskin designs on acrylic fingernails, and other items.

Females in the urban areas wore acrylic fingernails more often as a fashion statement, with airbrush designs, and hoop earrings. Many people like many things about the 1980s, and watching TV shows from the 80s brings back a few memories. It seems many styles come and go, but some may stay like Nike shoes, hoop earrings, boat shoes, and others.

Hi Shirley, I agree the Crayon shoes should be sold again. They are cute and casual. I had the black suede Crayon shoes with the transparent blue heel, when I was a child in the 80's. It would be great if they were sold in every color like they were in the 1980s.
