Summer 2010 Nail Polish Color Trends

I've done a lot of reading on the Internet the past few days about summer nail polish trends. I'm getting ready to go on vacation and wanted to pick a color for my mani/pedi that would be summery, would match with most of the clothes I'm taking, and which would suit my skin color.

There are some conflicting opinions out there on what's "in" for summer, but I can sum up the three main ideas: Go bright, go pale , or go greige! Yes, greige.

Brights

Bright, cheery, neon colors are great for summer. These colors really pop against tan skin and look great on fingers and toes!

Ditch the clear polish or French manicure and go for something eye-catching! Try neon shades like bright pink, green, or even yellow!

Here's an idea - pick a color from your bathing suit and find a shade to match!

My favorite summer shade is OPI's Feelin' Hot Hot Hot, a bright flamingo pink!

Pastels

Think cotton candy! These cool, pale shades aren't as "crazy" as some of the bright shades, and they also compliment sun-tanned skin!

Look for barely-there pale pinks, soft lilacs, or even minty green shades!

I like Hawaiian Orchid by OPI; it's a pale pink-lilac iridescent shade that's just a little bit sparkly and not totally matte.

Greige

This is a color that was made popular by Chanel on the runways. Can you believe a bottle of Chanel Particuliere nail polish goes for as much as $69.95?!  If that's too expensive for you (uh, it is for me!) OPI, Maybelline, and Revlon all make great nail polishes in similar shades.

Greige is a neutral shade; a cross between gray, brown, and beige. It can be lighter or darker and perhaps have shades of lilac or mauve.

If it seems a little too strange for you, find something in a more neutral beige or sandy-brown shade. I like Maybelline's Iced Mauve; it's a nice "nude" or flesh-tone color with a little bit of sparkle.

I have warm toned skin and I do find warm colored nail polishes look best on me, but if I like a color that looks awful on me, I'll wear it anyway. If you go on Zoya's site, they tell you which nail polishes are warm or cool. I think some are neutral too, I dont remember.
