Awesome! I am overwhelmed with the information, intrigue, and mystery of the meanings, (especially to the individual of the tat') I have a large scar on my back from lung surgery. I have always wanted an Eastern Dragon using the scar line as an artistic guide. NOW, I am very enthusiastic regarding mixing in a swallow(s) with it. The puzzle pieces are coming together, I guess - smile. Well, I'm off to look up the history of San Juan Capistrano and return of the swallows.

Thank you, thelyricwriter for the song you have presented here.

I so enjoyed reading the information in this hub, fascinating. Wondered why sailors liked swallows, didn't realise it was the fist bird they were likely to see.

Great hub Ricky

Tsmog, thanks for taking the time to come by and for your comment. Glad you found it interesting. I agree, that would be a great tattoo to cover the scars. The dragon is as well. I say go for it though, you only live once.

Rosemay, thanks for coming by and for your comment and time. Swallows were a sign of dry land. They often landed on their ships. The swallow was a part of their life. They felt it was a sign of good luck. This made it a great tattoo. Swallow tattoos on a sailor mean he is experienced.

AE, thanks again for another visit friend. I also like the tattoos of the blue swallow on the feet. I wasn't sure what they would look like on the feet, but they looked pretty good.

I am getting a swallow tattooed on my foot and am thinking of a good quote to go with it and the quote theme is on new beginnings but also being protected by a close person that has passed away recently.

if you have any good quotes that would match i would love some suggestions

Sheeran, thanks for taking the time to come by. Perfect choice for a swallow tattoo. New beginnings and protection, I may be able to help. I am not for sure if you already have a design, but in this case, I really like the swallow holding a cross or heart charm. It can also hold your quote. Since it is an ankle tattoo, I would imagine your looking for something short and to the point. You may gain inspiration from their initials. Such as SHP, in this case, stength, hope, and protection. Perhaps, "My eye(s) in the sky", "Gone but not forgotten", "Hope from Heaven", "Protection of angels or protection of my angel", "Til we meet again", "My love, my life, my everything". I wonder if this is a friend, family, or a partner. So I am mixing it up a little. "Carrying your love with me", If you can give me a little more detail, I would be happy to help. Perhaps your relationship to them, your swallow tattoo design, anything associated to the two of you.

Sheeran, you are most certainly welcome. I am glad I could help. Hearing the rest of your story, this is a great choice for you. The tattoo looks great and there is a great story behind it with you, your twin sister, and uncle. So sorry for your losses. I am positive both of them will continue to guide you to the right path and your tattoo is a great way to forever remember them. Wishing you nothing but the best.
