How to Make Homemade Foot Balm and Other Sweet Treats for your Feet
Sometimes our feet just need a little bit of tender loving care. Caring for our feet can get overlooked during the winter months when they are hidden away, stuffed into shoes and boots. No wonder they get dry and cracked! The skin on our feet needs to be exfoliated to remove the dead layer of dried skin and to expose more beautiful, softer, and younger looking feet.
Minimize expensive pedicures and look to your own fridge and pantry for some natural ingredients that have huge health benefits to the skin. Here are some homemade sweet treats for your feet that will make you feel relaxed, rejuvenated, and smelling good enough to eat.
Strawberry Shortcake Scrub
Strawberries act as a natural exfoliant to gently buff away dead skin cells on top of the skin. With mild antiseptic properties, strawberries will soothe any minor sores or irritation on your feet leaving them feeling smooth, fresh and smelling deliciously sweet!
- 8 Strawberries
- 2 Tablespoon Olive Oil
- 1 Teaspoon Sea Salt
Mix ingredients together into a paste and then scrub liberally all over your feet, massaging for about 20 minutes. Rinse off with warm water and dry your feet.
Banana Honey Crème
Bananas have good nutritional value for our skin as well as for our diets. Inexpensive to buy, bananas are readily available and make an excellent soft base for a luxurious homemade foot cream. Honey, as well as being deliciously sweet and good for you, will help to promote new tissue growth when applied liberally to the skin. It contains mild hydroxyl acids which aid in smoothing the skin and increasing elasticity.
- 1 Ripe Banana
- 1 Tablespoon Runny Honey
- 1 Teaspoon Lemon Juice
- 1 Tablespoon Margarine
Before bedtime, blend all the ingredients together in a food processor and massage the crème gently and thoroughly over the feet and ankles. Cover your feet in a fresh pair of socks overnight and then wash off the next morning.
Almond Avocado Lotion
Neglected, cracked feet will love soaking up all the natural ingredients found in this almond avocado lotion! Relax and unwind as you breathe in the calming scent of the eucalyptus oil. Combined with the many soothing properties to be found in almond and avocado oil, this combination will leave your skin relaxed and supple.
- 1 Teaspoon Avocado Oil
- 1 Tablespoon Almond Oil
- 1 Teaspoon Wheat-Germ oil
- 10 Drops Eucalyptus Essential Oil
Combine all ingredients together in a bottle and shake very well until thoroughly mixed. Apply the lotion to a cotton pad and gently dab it onto the feet, massaging in circular movements. Be generous in applying more lotion to especially dry, cracked, or damaged parts of the feet.
Chocolate Candy Scrub
There is something so comforting about chocolate! Be sure to save a couple of pieces of chocolate to eat while pampering yourself with this sweet treat.
- 1-2 Bars Milk Chocolate, such as Dairy Milk
Slowly melt the chocolate in a microwavable bowl on low power, in 15 second increments, until warm. Add sugar and stir until a grainy mixture is achieved. Give your feet a good scrub with this mixture while it is still warm and give new life to tired, overworked feet. Rinse off and pat dry.
Coconut Cream Pie Foot Balm
Coconut oil has been used for centuries as an essential ingredient in skin care products. Its healing and repairing properties bring lasting relief to worn out or damaged skin. Coconut oil penetrates deeply into the skin to bring out natural youthful beauty, encouraging a new healthy glow. This balm combines the properties of coconut with a delicious vanilla scent to give your feet a true pampering experience.
- ¼ Cup Shea Butter
- 2 Tablespoons Coconut Oil
- 1 Tablespoon Olive Oil
- ½ Ounce Piece of Grated Beeswax
- 2 Tablespoons Coconut Flour
- 10 Drops Essential Oil of Vanilla
- 10 Drops Essential Oil of Coconut
Mix first 4 ingredients in a small saucepan and stir until melted over a very low heat. Remove from the heat and then stir in the essential oils. Pour the mixture into a clean jar and leave to cool. Smooth this luxurious sweet foot balm over your feet before bedtime to cool down your skin and leave it deliciously soft and smooth.
