Unique Handmade Silk Scarves and Shawls – The Perfect Keepsakes

It is rather easy to see how the title of the book Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus evolved.  In many ways, men and women do seem to be from dissimilar planets.  Ever ask a man about what happened on a special day? More than likely, he will fill you in on even the minutest detail of a soccer, football or baseball game from that day. He could even tell you who started, who played and who was best player. Ask a woman, even though years have passed and more often than not, she will remember what she wore on that day.

Like memories, people hoard away treasured keepsakes. These remind us of those special occasions. We might tuck them away in a box or chest, ready to look at from time-to-time – present to relive those days past. At times, we pass these memories on to our daughters and even granddaughters, clasping the memento in our hands while we relate its special tale. We hold forth hoping one day to pass on the precious items to our children or grandchildren.

In a typical memento box, you will find letters, pieces of jewelry and photographs from the time before digital cameras. Rarely, except perhaps for a wedding dress, does clothing form a part of the treasure trove. Clothing is part of a life and seasonal cycle. They come and go, discarded when size, style and usage fade and disappear. Yet, many times, clothing is the most personal of all tokens. They often comprise a part of what our daughters wish we had left behind. The retention of clothing, no matter how beautiful and marvelous, is impractical. Does any “normal” person have enough closet space for regular usage let alone storage? As a result, the item is lost, remaining only intact in the memory.

For women, life consists of several memorable dates. There was the first date, Senior Prom, graduation, wedding and all the anniversary dates. Women also remember those special occasions when enormous effort and great care went into the selection of what we decided to wear. We may have opted for elegance, grace or sophistication. Perhaps, we enhanced the outfits with a spectacular handmade silk scarf or shawl. If this was the case, while we may have to sooner-or-later, jettison the outfit, we can hold onto the silk scarf or shawl forever.

Having a silk scarf or shawl to run through your fingers will help trigger the memories of times past. The soft fabric and wondrous colors will take you back in time to the last date you wore it and the all-important occasion. Memories will bubble to the surface. This is but one reason why you should carefully select and wear a silk scarf for significant events. Afterwards, you can wrap it away in tissue forever, or wear it time and time again to build up more memories to tell your children.
