Best Prom Dresses

If this is your first time clicking on one of my articles, thanks for reading and I hope that you find my top ten list for this year to be helpful. This is my third year writing a top ten prom dress list on HubPages. If you take a look at my hubs, Top Ten Spring 2009 Prom Dresses and Top Ten Spring 2010 Prom Dresses, you might find that some of those looks seem timeless. Nevertheless, I would like to offer you a fresh list, a new perspective based on the current store trends.

Certain colors are predominant in the current styles. For example, as reflected in Hollywood celebrity fashion as well, metallics and sequins are in style with a vengeance. This was well evidenced in the styles of gowns worn recently at the 83rd annual Academy Awards ceremony, Many women from Oprah Winfrey to Gwenyth Paltrow were wearing metallics and Oscar co-host Anne Hathaway fit some into her seven wardrobe changes throughout the show as well.

There are definitely some metallics featured in my top ten prom dress list this year. I find them to be really nice, gorgeous colors that pop.

I have my typical go to stores for great fashion. They include Dillard's, Macy's, Lord and Taylor, and Nordstrom's among others. This year though, Nordstrom's tops the list for their great variety and selections.

 The dress above is similar to #10 and it is an absolute steal at $66.99. The original price was $90. With a 5 star customer rating, buyers love it and it is available at JcPenney which is often very fair in pricing. This My Michelle X back pleated dress is available is sizes X-small to large.

This Dave and Johnny feather embellished teal prom dress is available for $218 at edressme.com.It also reminds me of Shaun Robinson's stunning Oscars dress featured further below in this article.

I have a pretty eclectic fashion sense so I think this top ten prom fashion list might have a little something for everyone. I surprised even myself by how much I adore the dress above. If you are ready to be a bold and daring trendsetter, you might like it for yourself too.

This Speechless Maxi dress in an over-sized floral print is available at Macy's and is also priced right. It is currently on sale for $89.99. The regular price is $129.

It's available in odd sizes 3-13.

 It is not typical of me to recommend a dress that is ivory or white for the prom. I think some of those gowns begin to look too much like wedding dresses but this particular dress is one that I recommend highly. It is truly elegant and trendy with the big flower on one shoulder. It is an Adrianna Papell dress and can be purchased at Macy's, currently priced at $209.

 Since it is already a bright yellow color, I might prefer this dress fabric to be more muted with less of a shine and shimmer. Neverless, the color is pretty and I love the neckline and embellishments. It also features an empire waist which has to be my favorite type generally. This B. Darlin Bead-Detail dress is currently available at Dillard's for $179 in odd sizes 1-9.

 For the dress above, I am not too wild about bubble hems, however, I love the length and color combination - a black bodice, white skirt and lime sash. This Jessica McClintock strapless dress is available at Dillard's for $219 in odd sizes 1-11.

Royal blue with a shimmer is also receiving accolades in the celebrity world. It is very vibrant and appealing. It is not surprising that it is a current trend. Shaun Robinson of Access Hollywood wore a similar dress to the Oscars this year.

This JS Collections One Shoulder Taffeta and Chiffon gown is available in sizes 6 to 16 for $198 at Nordstroms.

I think the dress above is awesome. I reminds me of something Jennifer Lopez / J.Lo would wear. It says you have arrived (at prom that is) and you are ready to celebrate! This Aidan Mattox sequin sheath dress is available at Nordstrom's for $295.

This fairytale ball gown by Adrianna Papell is sure to make you feel like a princess. It is available in a beautiful violet color. It can be purchased at Lord and Taylor. The cost is $298
