Here is more information on the types of acnes scars, so people can understand that there is more than one type, and each type needs to be treated in a special way.

1.Pitted Acne Scars

  1. Pitted Acne Scars: This kind of acne scar is the most common type that most people suffer from. These scars are caused by inflammatory acne. However, within this particular category, there are three different kinds of these pitted acne scars.
    1. Rolling scars: This type of acne scar has very wide depressions in the skin, but the edges of them are rounded off. With the appearance of these scars, the skin looks like it is rolling, which is where its name comes from. Typically, the best treatments for these scars are things like laser resurfacing and chemical peels, which will allow for healthy tissue to replace the damaged and pitted tissue.
    2. Boxcar scars: These scars have a more square appearance, and tend to be deeper in the tissue than rolling scars. Because these scars are more squarish than rolling scars, it is often difficult to cover them up with makeup. Typically, dermatologists may recommend that people with this kind of scar have chemical peels, laser skin treatments or even suggests surgery in order to have healthy skin replaced the scarred skin.
    3. Ice pick scars: The deepest scars that can be caused by acne are called ice pick scars. The typical kinds of treatments used to treat acne scars are not going to work, and typically, surgery has to be performed on the skin because the scars are so deep.

2.Raised Scars

These scars, which are also known as hypertrophic or keloid scars actually make the skin appear to be raised up because of excessive scar tissue in the skin that is causing the skin to be puffy. While some people use chemical peels to treat acne scars, these kinds of scars do not respond well to those treatments, and typically, the excessive amount of scar tissue has to be surgically removed.

3.Pigmentation Scarring Acne

Acne can cause a lot of trauma to the skin, and in addition to the scars, some people end up developing a pigmentation issue as well. The scars from acne can actually cause the skin to change colors. Some people end up with too much pigment in the skin, or have a lack of pigment in the skin. Also, some people can have a condition that causes there to be a redness to the skin that does not go away. For people who have hyper-pigmentation, the extra pigment in their skin that looks like patches of freckles. The treatment for excessive amounts of pigment can vary from using special lasers to prescription medication and special topical creams that can help hinder the pigment cellular growth. To treat people who have too little pigmentation caused by acne scars, a condition known as vitiligo, there are few options available for treating it. For a reason that is still unknown, the pigment cells stop making the pigment, which leads to white patches of skin. However, at this point, there really no treatments available to stop the cells from losing pigmentation, but there are things that people can do to improve the look of the skin. There are therapies involving medication, and light, and there are also many products that women can wear that is like cosmetics, but a little thicker, which can cover up the pale areas. The condition that leaves the skin with redness to it is called erythema. The cause of this condition is that acne has damaged the skin, and as a result, the capillaries are dilated, which gives the skin the red look because of the blood that is very close to the surface of the skin. Because the capillaries are so close to the skin’s surface, the treatments for erythema involve the use of lasers. There are also treatments involving light have that reduced the red appearance, and there are also prescription medications that can also reduce the dilation of the capillaries, which will calm down the red look.

Acne scars can really alter a person’s appearance, and also the condition and texture of their skin. People may be not know that there are many types of acnes scars, and the kind they have, is going to determine the most effective form of treatment. Some acne scars respond to things like chemical peels, while others need a more drastic treatment like the use of a laser. Anyone with acne scars need to consult their skin doctor to not only determine what type of acne scar they have, but what is going to be the most effective treatment for them.
