Growing strawberries at home is quite an easy task today.

You can either buy the plant when it is small or buy a full grown plant which you can then plant into to the ground at home.

Whatever method you choose, ensure that the fruit plant has not been sprayed with pesticide.

The reason you don't want this is because if you are going to use the leaves for tea then you don't want chemicals in it.

Foraging for wild strawberries

If you decide to not grow your own strawberries, then you could instead start foraging for wild strawberries in your local forest or hedgerows. If you find a good woody area you also might come across blackberries and blue berries.

Remember to pick off the young leaves from the strawberry plant. The best time to start doing this is around late spring or the beginning of early summer.

When you decide to make your own tea it is best to use fresh strawberry leaves or completely dried strawberry leaves.

If your dog has oily skin, you can also use this liquid to bathe them in as the smell is not overpowering and your dog will smell pretty. The scent won't annoy them either as it wouldn't be as strong as a product containing chemicals.

@ GCheck, thanks for advice. Sometimes it's hard to spot these grammer errors. :)

@jenubouka, Will have to look into the raspberry thing. When you plant your own fruit, it a lot more easier, that having to search for them. Where I live a lot of the time, you have to go pass the nettles to get the wild raspberries. V.tricky. Good luck with your NY plan. :-)

I am going to make a triumph attempt this year to do just that, last year slipped away from me, and strawberries are a definite for planting, what about raspberry leaves, well wait then again, it would be quite painful to get those little suckers...

@ jenubouka, the things we can eat, drink and bath in are amazing. The great thing is we can either get them easily or have them growing in our gardens.

What awesome information here. I never knew the strawberry leaf could be homeopathic. The skin tonic, tea, and bath are on my list.

I was searching for some strawberry dishes on Traffup and found your lovely article. I'd definitely try "Strawberry Leaf Tea" as I'm kinda getting bored of drinking regular tea :)

@ Joyette Fabien, your so lucky you were raised with that knowledge. It's amazing that some countries just naturally know all this stuff. I think here in Ireland a lot of us don't realise the benefits of the things nature just natually has to offer us.

@ novascotiamiss, thanks for taking the time out to read it. Glad you enjoyed it....

It is amazing that people often ignore the fact that fruit leaves can be twice as useful as the fruit. In the Caribbean where I'm from, herb teas are kind of traditional so we make wide use of the leaves of fruit trees as well as other herbs which are known to have medicinal properties. We use the teas not only as remedies, but as beverages too.

Well that's news to me. I grow strawberries but never occurred to me that the leaves could be used too. I will try the tea recipe.
