Women and Fashion
Fashion, Style and Hollywood
I have always admired women and how they dress so beautifully. I have watched many movies over the years and have fallen in love many times with the starlets on the movie screen. One of my favorite actresses was Audrey Hepburn who was a very sophisticated women who was a true lady in every sense of the word. She had a way about her and she dressed so elegantly. I remember when I first went on a date with Maria, my wife and the mother of our wonderful son and how we would talk about our favorite actresses and she would always talk about the movie Breakfast at Tiffany's and Audrey Hepburn. My favorite movie was My Fair Lady and I fell in love with Audrey in that movie. I remember her presence, how she dressed and how beautiful she was. I saw that movie when I was a kid with my mother and we just loved it.
My mother was such a beautiful woman and she always dressed nice and she was part of the 1960's generation where she wore some very pretty dresses that were styled after these actresses and the wife of President John F. Kennedy, Jacqueline Kennedy who set a fashion trend for women of that generation.
Another actress who I enjoyed watching when I was a kid was Judy Garland and I will never forget the classic scene in the Wizard of Oz when she awoke in her bedroom and was greeted by the people close to her who she remembered vividly in her adventure in Oz. I believe the Wizard of Oz is one of the greatest movies of all time. The classic Somewhere over the rainbow which she had sung so beautifully is one of my favorite songs. I must have watched that movie over 20 times as I never tire of it. I also loved Julie Andrews from another favorite movie of mine that I also watched many times, The Sound of Music by Rogers and Hammerstein which was based on a true account of the Von Trapp family. I loved the musical sequences, the beautiful scenery and how Julie Andrews interacted with the kids in the Von Trapp family. It was truly magical as she coached them in singing so beautifully.
I believe these actresses of the big screen have such an influence on the young girls and women watching them. Young girls growing up love to imitate the stars and they learn a lot from the performances and the clothing styles. A movie that depicted the South at wartime and is one of the true classic's of all-time is Gone with the Wind. The movie is ranked as one of the best movies of all time and Vivien Liegh was one of the famed actresses who won an oscar for her unforgettable performance.
As I think back to all the movies I watched over the years where I admired the women starring in them, one actress who I thought was such a beautiful woman having started out as a child actress in the classic Miracle on 34th Street was Natalie Wood and the movie musical that was one of my favorites, West Side Story. I loved the scenes with Maria and Tony singing to each other and how they were two young kids in love from different backgrounds. The modern version of Romeo and Juliet. The performances were riveting and the girls looked so pretty and the singing was beautiful.
The woman who turned heads when she walked into a room was Marilyn Monroe and she was the very definition of beauty and tragedy. I always enjoyed seeing her in some of the classics and one of my favorites was Some Like It Hot with costars Tony Curtis and Jack Lemon who disguised themselves as women to escape the mob. It was very entertaining seeing how Marilyn befriends them and believes they are women in the all girls band.
An actress who started acting as a young girl and was in one of my favorite movies, the classic, National Velvet was the beautiful and very talented Elizabeth Taylor. She left a lasting impression on many who saw her movies and she was always very kind and was a good friend to many. She starred in over 60 movies and has a lasting legacy.
There were also scary movies with starlets who lit up the screen and one such actress was Janet Leigh who starred in the thriller Psycho which was one of the most suspenseful and scariest movies I ever seen.
It seems every generation has an attraction to movies, Hollywood, beautiful women and beautiful clothing styles. We sometimes are influenced by others on the big screen and we can dream and wonder as we are captivated by the splendor, artistry, story and performances of these fine actresses.
I could compile a whole list of movies that starred such beautiful women who were trendsetters in fashion and who were wonderful in their performance and in their clothing style. It is a joy to see a beautifully dressed woman and gaze at her as she displays her beauty and charm.
The big event that showcases the movies, the fashion styles and the talented stars of Hollywood is the Oscars which is a major event that receives a great deal of publicity and attention. If you are lucky enough to be considered for a nomination then you are part of the event and have a chance to win the big prize and make the speech of a lifetime thanking all the important people in your life.
