Someone very wisely explained to me once that outward beauty if really glamor - it is only skin deep. True beauty comes shinning from within, it is joy that is lived and transmitted to others.

In personality, character, loyalty, and trust.  A person can be beautiful on the inside even if their exterior doesn't reflect that.

Beauty is exactly what it is.....it isn't on the surface neither is it skin deep.  It exudes from the individuals pores, you can here it in their words, it is seen through their actions, it is embedded in their essence.  Have you ever seen someone and immediately thought OMG that they're beautiful, only somewhere down the road realize and even see the truth which is "Ugliness".  Then there are those you wouldn't have looked at twice, but over time you see and experience them in a way that defines true beauty.  Although beauty is "in the eye of the beholder" it exist in other places as well.  Well that is if you desire to see it there.

true beauty is found in one's heart and soul...that's the only beauty that really counts.

Well, I will say that God is the definition of "true beauty", because He is the only perfect, infalliable, Holy being, and in whom all things have their beginning and end.
These are only my particular spiritual views, but I will say them anyway.
I believe that true beauty lies in the hearts and faces of those who follow Jesus Christ, and who have completely and utterly given Him room to make His home in their hearts.  They have submitted their lives to His perfect, glorious power and love, and have now found satisfaction for their souls, abounding joy, and an eternal relationship with God.  God will help these people live lives full of meaning, purpose, & peace, and their actions will have eternal significance.  These true believers are truly beautiful in all ways, and you can see the light shining from their faces.

Everyone else seems to have already hit the nail on the head. True beauty comes from within, and it is not something that can ever be truly defined. Beyond that, I also think that it is important to find beauty within yourself before you can accurately distinguish beauty in other aspects of life. If an individual doesn't recognize beauty within themselves they may be mesmerized by superficial representations of beauty in the real world.

It is true, the aesthetics of beauty are only skin deep.  Where does true beauty then reside?  For centuries scholars, philosophers, poets, scientists, men and women of renown in every academic field imaginable have striven to find the answer to that question.

It was not until a summer's evening in 1987 that some fellow known to his friends simply as "Stu" stumbled upon the answer to that ever elusive question while riding in his 1974 Plymouth Volare on his way to purchase some chili cheese fries.  The answer:  True beauty resides just below the ileocecal valve within the structure that we know as the appendix.

Think about that the next time that you refer to your appendix as a mere vestigial organ, a genetic remnant of our foraging past, a useless structure meant to be extirpated from our bodies to make surgeons $15,000 richer each instance.

For those of you that have undergone appendectomies, you have my sympathy, I suppose that you have been condemned to an existence full of gloom, ugliness and despair.

PS - Of course, I am kidding, I was merely attempting to introduce some light hearted levity to the topic.  True beauty within the appendix... ha!  what a crock.  We all know it resides within the tonsils.

If you watch very carefully you will find that out.

I find it in the way a person moves in relation to others around them.

For instance: If there is an elderly person needing help and a person moves toward them or away from them.  I find the person moving toward them with a kind touch of the hand and a smile to be very beautiful and giving; the one moving away pretending not to see as basically ugly, insecure and selfish.

I find beauty in the few people who actually smile back at me at the grocery store or other public places.

If you are talking about finding internal beauty in a mate rather than outside beauty, that will take some time and friendship, which should be the basis of any relationship in the first place. I also revert back to my original statement. Watch how they move in relation to others around them.  Movement is beautiful if done in a pleasing manner.

Beauty is in what you say, how you feel and think.  It truly resides in your heart and soul.  When I meet such a person, their inner warmth shows in thru their eyes.

True beauty is what we call the secret person of the heart, the inner person. Who is the person deep within. Not how he looks and acts outwardly but what he is internally. This would mean his appealing qualities such as kindness, loving, humble, respectful, sensible, considerate, forgiving and etc.  These beautiful qualities could be manifested by the way he speaks and deals with his fellowmen. These are qualities without hypocrisy and it is real and appealing worthy to be praise and to be called "beautiful"
