Laser is great for scars. Fractional laser has proven results to diminish scars. Make sure you see someone good (not your local beautician) and they use a quality laser such as the Candela V-beam™ laser treatment, Q-Switched YAG laser or the Q-switched Ruby laser. See a dermatologist as they also have a treatment they do for keloid scars ( a thickened scar) where they inject the scar tissue with regular micro-injections of cortisone solution.
Treatment with a prescription "fading" cream such as Hydroquinone 3% may also be helpful if lasers are out of your price range.
