    Hello Kelly,
The key to losing weight is exercise. It not only increasing your metabolism, but it also builds muscle in which it burns fat. Anytime I have put on a few pounds, this has always worked for me. It can be something as simple as walking 4 times a week for 30 minutes.

True and I know once I get started it will become a habit. Its the getting started I  seem to be having a problem with. Even though I did do a little something this morning. Now if I can just keep it going. Thanks JT. Appreciate your answer.

    Hi Kelly,
My best weight loss and keeping it off is combining my food properly, and never eating or drinking anything with high fructose corn syrup in it. I try to read everything I put into my body.
As for combining my food I know what works best for me, and that  includes always eating fruit alone and on an empty stomach, and I separate from eating my bread and meat together.

    Smiles

Your welcome! YEARS ago, I read a book by Suzanne Somers. Eat Great, Lose Weight. With the food combing and how the French only eat fruit on an empty stomach, and smaller portions. French are thin.High Fructose Corn Syrup is proven to be bad! Smiles!

Ok thanks. I'll have to look into that. Don't want to make things too complicated.

My one tip is to 'keep it simple."  In order for weight loss or any life change to become permanent, it has to be a livable and sustainable program.  Do things that you can live with for a life time.

    Hi Kelly,

I am new to this site and I LOVE it. So much to do, learn, and read! To answer your question. The absolute best way for me to watch the weight and lose when I need to is by counting calories. When I want to be dramatic and lose fast I limit myself to 1200 calories a day. At first you may think that's not enough but I have come up with some great recipes to fit my life style. The main thing you want to gain (not weight) is to stay full as long as you can after a meal. In order to do this you must eat protein. For example chicken is protein. So I'll eat baked chicken with herbs, spices or whatever I have available for flavoring and make a huge salad with a low-fat or low-cal dressing and so on. Protein makes you feel full longer and most proteins are low in calories. Like egg white's is great for the morn with a slice of whole grain bread with a lite butter. I use Light Smart Balance Omega 3. I also do a 20 minute workout at home 4 days a week. You will lose 2 pounds a week changing to this life style. Once you've lost the desired amount even yourself out by consuming 1500 to 1800 cals. Sorry for the rambling, I hope you found this a little useful.

Eat slightly less at the right time and exercise straight after digesting! Is that one tip or three?! I wrote a hub on this very subject because I had a few friends who were constantly on this diet, that diet, Fred Frimpy's Magic Diet Plan or whatever! It's incredible how complex this market now is! They were paying quite a bit of money too, and getting nowhere.

I think a lot of people are genuinely bamboozled by the amount of choice offered these days and the over-complicated steps they have to go through - much of which feeds the mind all sorts of mixed messages. In short, they're given too much information!

Even something as basic as eating at the right time can help! If you sit down to a large meal at 6pm you have time to work some of the calories off. Eat at 8.30pm or 9pm and chances are you'll want to relax with a drink some music or t.v. or a book. You'll go to bed having burnt fewer calories off and as the days and nights pass, up goes the calorie count!

I'd better stop now I'm getting carried away!

This is reasonable and simple. I have read your hub and I am going for it, sweet tooth and all.  Thanks for taking the time to answer my question.

Drink plenty of water, it reduces the capacity for food, so less calories. Avoid soda, juices, smoothies and milk shakes because these are the easy ways to consume lot of calories, avoiding them would be the safe bet for losing weight. Chocolate milk is an exception it helps reducing the weight. Avoid late night eating, supper should be done by 6:00 p.m every day. All these works for me with or even with out exercise. Weight loss will be faster with exercise and little slow with out exercise.

Thanks sudhakumar. That is definitely good advice and I  do struggle with drinking enough water. Appreciate you taking the time to answer.

This is definitely true. Lots of people do not drink enough water and try to fill up on food instead. You should drink a full glass of water before each meal. Then, you should watch your food proportions.

Treat yourself occasionally. If your chocolate craving is getting to you, try diet hot-chocolate packets. If you need a treat, go out for it, or buy small prepackaged portions of ice cream bars. If you love chocolate, consider keeping bite-size pieces in the freezer.

Address the root cause of the problem. This is not done with dieting.

The root cause of the problem is about how you think about food. And if you think about it too much, then you need to understand why so that you can make changes.
This is not easy to do, but can be done.  Then what needs to be done is that you need to find fulfillment in another way other than food, and develop self-discipline.

This obviously does not apply to the minority who pick up a few pounds over vacation, but rather for people who struggle with their weight.

But I digress as you asked for ONE tip. So my one tip is: address the root cause of the problem.

Deep but True Get Thin for Good. I don't know if it matters but my big issue is sweets. I love em. You think there is some underlying reason for that? Thanks for answering!

Hi kellyteam. Well if you crave sweet things often, I would ask how much fruit you are eating. It could simply be that your body craves sweet things because you are not getting enough fruit.  Hope that helps!

Read ingredient labels and ditch the wheat. Anything that has wheat in it, avoid like the proverbial plague. Read the book, Wheat Belly, and you'll understand why wheat in North America is now "Franken-wheat" and should not be allowed for human consumption. Many people who stop eating foods with wheat in it end up losing weight without doing anything else different. They also end up feeling a lot better, more energetic, and some even reverse their digestive issues, including serious ones like IBS and Crohn's.

It does not matter what you are eating and how much you are eating. You can eat how much you want but the best way to loss your weight is regular exercise.
Our bodies were meant to move -- they actually crave exercise. Regular exercise is necessary for physical fitness and good health. It reduces the risk of heart disease, cancer, high blood pressure, diabetes and other diseases. It can improve your appearance and delay the aging process.
Exercise is also a key to weight control because it burns calories. If you burn off more calories than you take in, you lose weight. It's as simple as that.
