Are the new plus-size fashion lines encouraging unhealthy life styles?

There are many new fashion clothes coming out by some celebrities and non celebrities aimed at the over size 14 woman. is this encouraging unhealthy life styles or just being realistic?

No. No one stays fat on purpose because they just found a nice dress that fits. Whatever size a person is they need clothes and should have decent choices. Fat shaming is bullying which is psychologically harmful and counterproductive if you are trying to cause people to lose weight in a healthy way. When someone has a cute wardrobe they will likely feel better, get out more, start taking more care with their appearance in general which can all lead to a healthier lifestyle, more exercise, better nutrition, and eventual healthy weight loss down the road.

So they are being realistic in your opinion? I agree that wearing clothing makes one feel better, but you know there are extra health risks to being over weight?

Oh, those are fighting words! I'm an organic vegan, with test numbers my doctor envies, and I wear plus-sized clothes. I come from a long line of round women, so my size isn't about health---it's about genetics. The assumption that because I wear plus sizes, I'm unhealthy couldn't be further from the truth.

Also: why shouldn't women of all sizes have clothing options that help them express themselves and feel beautiful? Why should women of a certain size be penalized by being denied pretty clothes? Think about how silly that is: "No cute clothes until you lose 20 pounds."

Don't be so quick to judge!

Great point! Better to be a healthy plus sized woman any day than a standard sized woman with an eating disorder.

No, because being a certain size doesn't automatically mean someone is unhealthy.  I'm sure you could find plenty of size 14 women who are healthier than plenty of size 0s.

Women of every size deserve to feel good about what they're wearing.  For all you know a woman who's shopping for a size 16 just lost a bunch of weight and dropped down from a size 22.  Surely you wouldn't consider giving her nice clothes to choose from to be promoting an unhealthy lifestyle.

Fact is that we have no idea what's going on in someone else's life - maybe the plus-sized woman just lost 100lbs and is healthier than she's ever been, maybe she has a medical condition that makes it very difficult to lose weight, maybe she eats well but suffers an injury that makes it difficult for her to be anything other than sedentary..... the list goes on.  Assuming that all plus-sized women are "unhealthy" is unfair.

It's true that there are more healthy over weight women than many dealing with anorexia. There's a extreams on both sides, for sure.

I don't think so.  The fact that there are more plus size fashion lines only reflects the changing in shapes of women.  This change of shape is not only due to an unhealthy lifestyle, it is also due to many other factors.

Besides, if you have an unhealthy lifestyle you are going to keep it regardless of fashion, just as you are going to change your lifestyle towards a healthier one regardless of fashion as well.

Plus size fashion is not only for "obese" people.  You can wear a size 14 or 16 and still be perfectly healthy and sexy.
