   Do you think it is bad to get Angel Wings on your back as a first tattoo when your 16?
   
   I'm 16 and I'd like to get a tattoo. I have parental consent and everything. I'm just unsure, if I should get a large tattoo for my first time.

   YES!!!! I am so glad you are seeking counsel before doing this! Please consider getting something small, if anything at all, but definitely do not begin with such a large statement. Think of the fact that when you get married this will be the only thing people notice - not your gown, not your hair, but your tattoo. (I assume you are female!) Whenever you go to the beach for the rest of your life, there it is. What about when you have the office Christmas party when you are 31 and your boss sees it - and maybe, just maybe thinks a little less of you. Could happen, could not. But it is a big chance to take. I know right now that seems so far away, but trust me, time flies. Now, you may wait 2 years and still want it. That's cool. At least you will have given it a lot of thought. After all, by then you may want something completely different! Good luck making this huge decision.

   As a tattoo artist, I will tell you what I tell anyone. The first thing is this. You are too young to get tattooed. I do not think you are a child or a baby. But I do think that you are too young. In my state, you have to be 18.(California). I think you should take the art that you want, put it in an envelope , seal it, and put it away for 6 months. In 6 months, take it out, and  look at it. if you still love it, go get it henna tattooed on yourself, live with it for a few days/weeks. I am not sure how long Henna lasts. but at least you can see what it will look like in real life.
   Because we all hope to live long and happy lives, you know as well as I do, that somethings we loved a year ago, may not be anything we even think about today.
   The reason why people older than you think you are too young is because we were where you are now. We know the feeling of urgency and how deeply a young adult can feel about themselves.You are not wrong in wanting Huge angel wings on your back. But I feel there is more to it than that. I think because you are growing into an adult, you may feel ready to make very adult decisions, but one very adult thing to do , is to show caution, and plan and wait. You do not know what the future holds, and I am pretty sure that you want to be seen as someone who can think for themselves and make very good choices. This is that fork in the road place that will very well be your first adult decision. A tattoo on your personal body is the most crucial statement about "self and self discovery" anyone can make.
