Why are men so turned on by stockings? Why not tights? Its a topic that has puzzled me ever since I burnt all the cheap lingerie my boy friend had bought me whilst consuming a bottle of wine (I know I'm bad...). I've written my first hub about this strange fixation. Any ideas girls? Men - what is it about garter belts and stockings that get your juices flowing? Spill the beans! Please?
ok. now think about a long skirt with a split, that reveals a tiny edge of a stocking.
That's all just a play on your immagination. Stockings - is like wearing something, but at the same time not wearing anything. Plus, a man will have a thought about underwear straight away - and what if there isn't any...
hm.. you know what? This one word actually hits the Bull's Eye and makes it all fall in place. Men tend to know and control everything around them. Being "not sure" about something, or the word "maybe" is not their cup of tea. So this intrigues them - WTF is going on here? In addition, this is a "woman question", so it wakes up their instincts.
And God save the man, when it comes to both of these in action..
But then I'm not one of those men who controls everything around them, I'm more like the ball in a pinball machine being bounced from one 'not sure' to the next 'maybe' with little idea of what's going on.
But I do like me a woman in stockings (and that's all I know).
Lilly you do paint delicious word pictures - split skirt, the glimpse of stocking edge, is she wearing underwear? Look but don't touch.. The taut suspenders, the stocking top tightly gripping the thigh (was that me thinking out loud?) Excuse me while I take a cold shower
So funny, I used to wear them all the time instead of tights in my teenage and early twenties days, (I think it started when I became a kind of 2nd generation Teddy Girl / Rock 'n' Roll 1950's style chick, it was required dress for under the full circle skirts and petticoats so they would be visible when you spun around during the jiving). I carried on wearing them for years after, and even earned the nickname of "Cindy Stockings" amongst my work colleagues (who I told this fact to,..... before you think they found out some other way).
I did get a funny look from a nurse when I was having a routine pap smear test though, and she asked me if I wore them all the time, (I think she wondered if I might have hoped for a male nurse or something). I had to explain that I felt they were more hygienic, plus if you bought several pairs the same colour, then managed to ladder one, you only had to throw away one legsworth, therefore you still had five legs left. It means your stockings supply lasted ages longer as each spare leg was a match for the next pair you laddered a leg on.
there visual appearance up to the thigh area is fine, but it's when you go higher and encounter the very unattractive gusset then things start to fall apart. Gussets just aren't sexy. Big, wide gusseted tights do not a sexy lady make. And if you happen to be fat and wearing something like that... then, My god, call for the fashion police!
Stockings have much greater appeal. Thigh high stockings are dynamite. When the lady bends, there is the promise of seeing some smooth, velvety flesh. Should she bend some more, then your day-trip to heaven gets even closer.
See, this is where I have trouble. Men seem to like stockings even when the flesh ISN'T smooth and velvety.
I'm overweight and no spring chicken, so my thighs are definitely past their best! I feel like stockings highlight that - the expanse of white cellulited flesh sandwiched between silky black pins and garter belt is s-o-o-o not attractive. Yet my husband still loves it when I wear them.
Stockings are eye-lines. They act in a similar way to a plunging neckline on a tight t-shirt. The neckline provides a path for the eyes to follow, it leads the eyes to the breasts.
Stockings lead the eye up the legs. If the legs are shapely then the eyes want to follow. The break at the top of the stockings where the upper thigh is exposed is a sexual zone. What female does not like having the inside of her upper thighs softly caressed? For the man, this area of exposed flesh is sexually alluring - they are seeing something they are not supposed to see.
And not all men will find your chubby, cauliflower thighs enticing. Be thankful your husband does.. isn't that all that matters?
I'm with you, Maximus591. The sensual aura of stockings accentuate areas of a woman's body connected with eroticism. There's the swish sound that stockings make when a woman crosses or uncrosses her legs; the area behind her thigh, the knee-pit and sometimes the calf rubs against the top of the lower thigh when she lifts the top leg---oh what a sound! The slower and longer it lasts, the sweeter the music.
Then there's the coloration, either of her natural flesh or of the stockings; each color has its own kind of erotic vibration. Then there's the shape of the legs inside the stockings, the feminine grace of her movements when she stands, walks, squats, or sits with stockings on. Not to mention the different materials--mesh, fishnet, sheer, or the eye-grabbing top bands or rims of stockings. Stockings are super fashionwear! Anybody here ever heard of Kirsty Blue? A good answer to what it is with us and stockings is visible in the first pic at the top of the webpage @ www.kirstyblue.org
Tights are UGH to wear too. Man I hate wearing tights or panty hoses. They are just so dang annoying! Never wore stockings either lol Jeans, or shorts for me...very rare for me to wear skirts or dresses...especially with pantyhoses or tights.
I can't speak for the other guys, but your question did make me think:
A. Do I find stockings more attractive than tights?
Hm. For sure I detest panty hose (being older than they are). As a young buck, it was a terrible thing, trying to find the top of the fabric and ending up at the belly button (or thereabouts). And, wow, no peel-a-bility whatsoever. Fort Knox, eat your heart out, ain't no safecracker gettin the gold outa that unitard tonight, buddy!
Overall, though, I prefer bobby socks. Now, gimme a heart-faced little cutie in a poodle skirt and a ready smile...
P.S. Wow, Lita, just scrolled up, read your post, and realized you and I are on the same page when it comes to this thread! Who'da thunk we'd find bipartisanship in the politics of "to stocking or not to stocking"?
lol I HATE 'stockings.' Has to do with dress codes in corporations...which I've had to deal with. The nude kind of hose are SO ugly...no fashion forward woman wears that. They prefer nude legs and maybe a slight tan.
The 'thrill of the discovery' sometimes is like thinking you're in America and then realizing you're in India. This happens when you ,men, think you're with a woman, and then 'discover' ,she's a drag ! What a thrill, ha ?!
A real tough Freudian situation here.Let us carry on with the discussion with views and opinions of both the gender. But I think only a male person can give clarity to such serious situation since we women are usually nonplussed. For us a stocking is a stocking and nothing else.
Some good analogies here - a journey of discovery, seeking far off forbidden lands, uncertain destinations, is this the promised land or somewhere else? Mountainous waves, stormy seas and an imminent, climatic shipwreck not forgetting the black stockings!
"So darling was that the promised land or have I just visited India?"
This is the first thread I've started on Hubpages and I'm amazed just how many posts there are. Some are really helpful; particularly the male perspective on stockings and suspenders (garter belts).
I like the win/win view - men love them and women love to wear them. 'Access' is a good summary too.
Girls - I have a confession. There have been times when there was no man in my life when I have taken a long, long indulgent shower, slipped into some hot lingerie and stockings and retired to the sofa with a slushy movie and a bowl of ice cream or a box a chocolates - Who needs men?
Okay, I'm slow...thought this was about men wearing stockings! lol at least until I read the first post! Why did I think this? I know of a couple of men who wear stockings! They claim it keeps their legs warm during the cold winter months and are inconspicuous under their trousers and socks. I wonder.... *back to the original question*
According to young turks, a new line of sexy lingerie is being mass produced specifically for men that want to wear them. It's also interesting to note that the company making the undergarments are saying that...
