My Fun and Funky DIY Bracelet

I enjoy making or remaking fun and functional items out of materials I may already have at home. This handmade bracelet could have ended up looking totally different if all I had were buttons or metal washers. Part of the beauty in making this wearable art was deciding which materials I would use to create this handcrafted jewelry piece.

You'll see how simple this funky bracelet is to make. Come and take a look!

DIY Funky Bracelet - Select Your Materials

Materials to funk up this bracelet are endless so see what you can scrounge up around the house, but the basic supplies are:

20 gauge galvanized steel wire AND needle nose pliers/wire cutters

What type of bracelet would you like to make?

How Much Wire Do You Need?

Measure around wrist and add 1 1/2" to this measurement. Then multiply this measurement x 4 and cut the wire to length.

Need Some New Needle Nose Pliers?

Looking at the picture of my needle nose pliers, I think it's time I got some new ones. :) I think this pair would be perfect for my needs. Be sure to pick a pair that has tips with smooth inside edges so the wire won't be scratched during construction.

My DIY Bracelet - Funking It Up

I used needle nose pliers to create a loop at the bottom of the length of wire. Then I started stringing the beads and washers onto the wire. I chose to center a big red bead, but this was my personal preference.

I actually strung 26 different beads onto the wire to get the look I wanted. So this part you'll probably just have to customize as you progress.

Funky Bracelet - Two Sizes

How loopy do you want your bracelet to be?

I used an empty paper towel tube to wind the wire around, so my bracelet turned out sort of chunky. I guess you could call it a "FUNKY CHUNKY" bracelet. :)

A skinny version of this bracelet could easily be made by winding the wire and beads around a length of 1/2" wooden dowel. It all depends on the look you prefer.

Connecting the Wire Ends........

You have options.

Because of the style of this giant "slinky" bracelet, you can add findings at the wire ends or not. It is not necessary, but that is entirely your decision. The loopy design allows this piece to be easily stretched or squeezed back into shape.
