Sexy Long Bob Haircuts

The Classic Bob Haircut

Bob haircuts are as old as the hills and never seem to go out of style. They just change lengths. The current trend of long bob haircuts are sleek, sexy and versatile. Movie stars and celebrities are sporting these cool haircuts and they look great. Nice thing about this style of hairdo is that almost everyone can look good in it because it suits most face shapes.

Great Hair Starts With the Cut

Unlike the short bobs of the early 1920s, today's trendy bob is usually a blunt cut that ends at the top of the shoulders. If you have straight hair, then this can be a naturally easy hairstyle to wear. Those of us with curly hair can either adapt the style to compliment our curls or we can straighten our hair.

Long Bob Basics

As I said before, long bob haircuts are sleek and classy. Not only that but they can be trimmed and kept to any length that you like. The bob haircut never goes out of style, either. The ease of caring for it is its trademark.

This long hair cut can be worn with or without bangs. I don't personally look good in bangs, so it would be a uni-length with a part in the middle or on the side for me.

You can give these modern haircuts different looks for different times. Soften the style around the bottom and sides, or keep it sleek like this hairdo is best known for. The versatility of this 'do also allows for flipping, curling, updo's, pony tails....pretty much anything, thanks to its length.

One thing to keep in mind if you are considering one of these long bob haircuts, hairstyle experts recommend this cut for thin and medium hair. If you have very thick hair, this may not be the best type of haircut for you.

Style Tips for Long Bob Haircuts

Cleopatra wore a bob. I read somewhere a long time ago, that she used cat urine to make her hair hold its style. Thankfully, that is no longer necessary. Styling and maintaining the latest haircuts can be done pretty easily and with much better smelling products than cat urine.

If you've never had a long bob before, don't be afraid to ask your hairdresser for styling tips or to show you how to maintain the basic look that you want.

Long Bob Haircuts are Easy Care

Flipped up or down, it doesn't take a lot of time or effort to make these cool haircuts look great
Flipped up or down, it doesn't take a lot of time or effort to make these cool haircuts look great

Tips for Straight Style Bobs

  • Use a round rolling brush when drying your hair. Roll under, regardless of whether or not you plan on wearing it flipped up
  • Apply mousse or gel to towel dried hair before styling
  • If you want more volume, lift the hair at the roots
  • Finish styling with a curling iron to smooth and flip the ends up or down.  Hairspray lightly.

Tips for Curly Bobs

  • Apply mousse or gel to towel dried hair before styling and work through with fingers
  • Using a diffuser, blow dry your hair, scrunching as you go. Be careful not to overdo the scrunching, lest you make it fuzzy. If you have naturally curly hair, you know what I'm talking about
  • Use your large barrel curling iron to tame any wayward curls, or to add curls if your hair is naturally straight
  • Give your freshly styled bob a light coat of hairspray and you're done

Good Hair is Fun

I think you get the idea now that long bob haircuts are easy, versatile classics.  Why not try one of these cute haircuts yourself.  Don't forget to play with your new hairstyle and dress it up with bands, clips, whatever is fun to you.  You'll look as great as your new hairdo will feel.

These styles are really great, Shirley...Since I'm a guy, I have it easy, I guess. Anytime I get a bad haircut, I can just cover it with a hat! I prefer longer hair on girls, BTW! Thanks.

Awesome hub as usual Shirley....

Thanks, Dohn. Yes, I've always understood that men prefer long hair on women. Not sure why, must have something to do with Lady Godiva. :)

Thanks for coming by, Dohn. I have to make a trip over to your hubs soon. Herald told me that you've written some extraordinary stuff and I haven't had much time recently for hub reading, unfortunately.

Hi, Robert! Thanks so much. When will I be reading your hubs?

I'm certainly glad we have progressed past the use of feline by-products for styling gels LOL - can you imagine?? You could smell people a mile away ewww LOL! Great hub Shirley =)

Enelle, what do you suppose the heat of Egypt did for the smell of that cat urine in her hair? Lovely! I don't think people bathed very often back then, either. Blech!

Thanks for your visit, Enelle. I haven't seen you around lately but then again, I haven't been around much, myself.

I actually like short bobs, but straight dark black hair I also like and it works well with short bob.

I agree with you, Mike. Long hair seems especially attractive when it comes to bobs, I think.

shirley, I love this hub so much! I'm a major fan of the bob haircut with finger wave. I wish more people would wear their hair that way. (I, of course would have to be exempt due to the fact that my hair is wilder than a hyena on its best days, lol). What an awesome topic. And may I just say that I am shocked that the bob haircut actually comes up in news feeds... amazing, who knew? Thumbs up!

Thanks, Michelle. If you take a before and after pic and send it to me, I'll add it to this hub.

Frieda! You were designated as spam - oh, the horror!

Re the finger wave bob, you and me both. It would look like I was wearing a wiry halo of frizz.

Umm, today's bob haircut news topics include the word, 'fetish'. Gee, maybe I should keep an eye on that, don't want to offend anyone's sensibilities. :)

Thanks for coming by, Frieda! Seems like forever since we've bumped into one another. Of course, it's my fault, I haven't been around much lately.

Great hub shirley and timely ,the layered bob is especially good for my curly hair. Giggled when I saw a product on the shelves called 'bed hair' all this time I was hot and didn't know it ,haha. Thankyou for the info.

I LOVE bob haircuts! Great hub. The 1928 bob is gorgeous.

Eaglekiwi, how great to find out that you're hawt! Lucky girl! I've never seen 'bed hair' but it sounds like an 'interesting' product. I'll have to see if we have it here. Layered bob...curly hair...hmmmm, I'm going to have to have a word with my hairdresser about it, never heard of that, either. I really need to get out more. :) Thanks for the information!

Bella, people seem to really like the 'old' bobs. I'm not sure how long it would take to emulate but it looks like it might take a while. I like how it looks but I'm more of a wash-and-wear gal, except when going out (I seldom do). Thanks for your comment!

I love Bobs. Especially Bob Evan's. Or the two Bob's, I've got a meeting with them..hey, is that my stapler?

No, really..I'm down with the first; it's time for the flapper to re-emerge. ;)

But they're all interesting, and I suppose it really depends on mood and facial structure.

lxxy!!! How are ya? I don't think I've ever eaten in a Bob Evan's (it is a restaurant, right?), we don't have them here.

You can borrow my stapler, if you want....it's in the shape of a rooster. :) I'm not even kidding.

Thanks for coming by, sweetie! It's good to see you.

Lovely hairstyles! I sometimes wish I had short hair; honestly there's not much one can do with loooong hair.:)

Shirley Anderson profile image

Anjalic, really long hair can be a challenge, for sure. It's heavy and hot.

When I was a young girl, I knew a woman who had thick, dark hair down past her butt. She used to put it into a multi-layered bun pinned high on her head. It was a coiled affair and I could never figure out why it never fell away from the pins.

I remember her telling me that that she only washed her hair once a week (or 2 weeks or a month, can't remember) because it was such a chore.

Hope yours isn't that much of a headache! If it is, maybe you could go shorter in stages, to let you get used to it a little at a time.

Thanks for coming by, Anjalic!

I too like Bobs. My wife went from a Mullet to a Bob long ago. And yes, Bob Evans is a great eatery. Don't think they are west Of the Mississippi as he would never go any further with his sausage than a truck could go in a day. I have an ancient curling iron I found a while back, looks dangerous and I have been burned more than once by my wife's as she tends to forget it leaving it on after going to work. ouch

Shirley Anderson profile image

Shirley Anderson 7 years ago from Ontario, Canada Author

Hi, Ralwus! Your wife had a mullet? Glad she switched to a bob, bet you are, too!

Ohh, curling irons and flat irons can leave nasty, painful burns. It's funny...your wife's the one that uses it and you're the one that gets burned. You poor guy!

Bob Evans is primarily a sausage man, then? I don't like sausage, so I guess I won't bother crossing the border to hunt down a franchise to sample their eatery wares.

Thanks for enlightening me, Ralwus! Stay safe around the curling iron. :)

I love short hair, it is so much sexier than long hair. I was really scared about having my long hair all cut, but everyone preffered my bob! You have to love the bob!

Shirley Anderson profile image

Shirley Anderson 6 years ago from Ontario, Canada Author

Hi, Ellie. I've just recently had my hair cut. It was down between my shoulder blades and it really felt like I was wearing a mat on my head. Now that it's up past my shoulders, it just feels so darn good. My hair is naturally curly, so it takes a little longer to style but not much.

It's too late to make this a short story, I guess :) but I agree with you, the bobs are great and people tend to offer a lot of compliments, so they must look as good on us as they feel.

Thank-you for dropping by and commenting.

Thanks, Betty!

Whenever I think of flipped hair, I think of Laura Petrie on the Dick Van Dyke show. It's such a pretty look.
