How to Wear Harem Pants

If you aren't yet wearing harem pants, I have to ask, “why the heck not?” They are probably the most comfortable and adaptable item in a wardrobe.

Whether you're short or tall, fat or thin, male or female, nine or ninety, there are harem pants which will suit you.

These loose fitting baggy pants have been around a long time and yet, like a boomerang, their popularity returns. If you are a 30 something then you may think, “Ah parachute pants” and tag MC Hammer as the man who brought these worldwide fame.

If you are 50+ you will be thinking of Barbara Eden who, in “I Dream of Jeannie”, made harem pants iconic and sexy.

Now you have Justin Bieber wearing versions of this Bohemian style clothing in various designs and patterns. But don't let his wearing them put you off. Just kidding.

Versatile & Comfortable Harem Pants

I love these baggy harem pants. They are my 'go to solution' for a "what am I going to wear" moment. I wear them either as a jumpsuit or as bottoms with a simple top. Great for yoga, pilates, or just hanging out around the house, these are the ultimate in comfy clothes.

What are Harem Pants

So just what are harem pants? They have been around for a long time but it took the western world time to catch on to these super comfy hippy style pants. Back in 1911 a French desiger, named Paul Poiret added these Aladdin style pants to his collection. They were a hit and have always had a loyal following among the more enlightened fashion consumers.

These baggy trousers, are perfect for both men and women who want ease of movement but want great looking Bohemian style hippy clothes as well. Sitting on or just below the waist and with a full wide leg which narrows at the ankle or sometimes the knee. There are many styles some with more fabric around the hips than others some even have a skirt across the front. Often the crotch of harem pants is worn low, near the middle of the thigh or even as low as the knees. This is extremely healthy as it allows for air circulation. This combined with the natural cotton means the wearer will be cool throughout the day. This hippy fashion is available in a wide range of patterns and colors, including striking tribal wear designs. Once worn, you'll understand why these are popular with those who practice yoga, pilates and other gentle movement exercises.

Harem Pants for Men

As I mentioned earlier in this post, harem pants aren't just for women. Men, and not just those in the music industry, are grabbing this fashion item with gusto. Why not, they are cool and comfortable. The days of keeping your crown jewels in a pair of skin tight jeans is over. These baggy trousers with the dropped crotch are healthier for men to wear and are a more exotic look than wearing a pair of sweat pants no matter how cool the label may be.

These look great teamed with a pair of flip flops, jogging shoes, or slip ons in a coordinating color. Remember keep it casual.

***Men***

Did you know, that wearing loose pants

can increase your sperm count.

How to wear Harem Pants

One of the best things about these hippy style pants is they make going casual look awesome. They can be worn with virtually anything and made to look casual or formal. For women, a short midriff top looks great with harem pants. Wear with flat shoes such as plimsolls or low heeled sandals. If you want something dressier ladies, opt for a tunic or a mid-thigh length loose blouse.

Guys, these baggy pants paired with a basic t-shirt, will help you show off your body. This look can be altered by wearing an unbuttoned thin cotton floaty shirt over your t-shirt with the sleeves rolled to 3/4 length.

Harem or Aladdin pants also are ideal as a cover-up for swimwear. Whether you are heading to the beach or to the pool, they offer more coverage while still retaining a casual and spirited lifestyle look.

Who wears harem pants?

These middle eastern inspired Aladdin pants, are for anyone who wants freedom from tight fitting clothes. Available in bright colors and patterns, incuding tribal wear designs, in a wide range of fabrics including cool cotton and soft jersey. They make a suitable alternative to workout clothes which are often skin tight. They are for people who want Bohemian clothing but with a retro and exotic feel to it. Harem pants are perfect for hanging out with friends, going clubbing, or personal activities such as practicing yoga.
