What you really need to successfully study with the Open University, by that I mean year on year continuation of studies, is plenty of time AND sufficient funds to cover fees. Admittedly there is now a fund to which you can apply for assistance which is means tested, or you can ask for sponsorship from your employer - assuming you have a friendly employer who will gladly do this.
