Akhenaten was the ninth Pharaoh in the 18th dynasty, in the last part of the New Kingdom. At about the fourteenth year of his rule, it is claimed tht Akhenaten picked on his son-in-law, Smenkhare, to rule with him due to his supposed failing health. I have not found evidence to support ‘a failing health’ proposition for Akhenaten. It seems more probable that Pharaoh.
