Ezogabine (Potiga): A New Medication For Epilepsy

Ezogabine is an oral, small molecule drug approved by the FDA in June 2011 for the treatment of partial-onset epileptic seizures. It is the first epilepsy drug that works by activating potassium ion channels in nerve cells in the brain. Ezogabine showed convincing efficacy at decreasing the frequency of seizures in patients who did not respond to older drugs. In addition, ezogabine had an acceptable safety profile.
