Exercise Tiger was a series of full dress rehearsals along the southern English coast for the D-Day invasion. It involved 30,000 men and many ships, including nine large, fully-loaded LSTs (tank landing ships). In the early morning hours of April 28, 1944, the flotilla was attacked by German E-boats, killing 749 American soldiers and sailors.
