One or more of the five basic principles can be found in any pleasing visual arrangement. Proportion is the relationship of elements in terms of size or scale. Rhythm is established by the repetition of lines and colors. Tension is the combination of conflicting elements to prevent monotony. Balance is achieved by bringing into equilibrium various forms or colors. Unity results from the combination of elements so that no feature of the design is out of place and all features are necessary.
