A few years ago we sailed from Belfast to an independent island in the British Commonwealth called the Isle of Man in the middle of the Irish Sea. It not only is politically independent having its own currency and poatage, it has its own language, Manx (a combination of old Norse and Gaelic). We took a cog railway train to nearly the summit of Mt. Snaefels over 2,000 feet high, and from this windy summit we could see into Northern Ireland, the Irish Republic, England, Scotland and Wales.
