82Understanding the Galactic Alignment
As the year 2012 comes upon us, there is some speculation as to what the alignment of the sun to the galactic center during the winter solstice is supposed to cause. Due to the intersection of the ecliptic with the milky way, there are two points that align with the solstices. In Mayan cosmology, these are the heart of sky and the great rift, which is the galactic center. The current alignment is rare, occurring only once every 13,000 years.
