The movie is based around Adso and William of Baskerville trying to solve these deaths, while the monks see each death as a sign from the Apocalypse. William of Baskerville, a Franciscan monk, travels to the abbey with the young Adso. They go there to attend a meeting, but are then asked to solve the deaths of some monks. The abbot of the monastery thinks that the deaths seem to correlate with prophecies in the Book of Revelation.
