San Xavier del Bac Mission a Padre Kino Tucson Arizona Treasure
Many agree that San Xavier del Bac Mission just South of Tucson Arizona is one of finest examples of mission architecture in the United States. The Catholic mission was begun about 1783 or 1788 and finished around 1797. The construction was fired or burnt adobe and lime plaster as wood was scarce. One tower remains unfinished and it is a mystery why it was never finished. The artwork on the painted walls is bright following a restoration. It has been called the White Dove of the Desert.
