With other catechists like his age , Pedro went with Padre Diego Luis de San Vitores to evangelize the Chamorros in the Ladrones Islands in 1668. On April 2, 1672 while in the village of Tomhom, they were treacherously killed by 2 village chiefs with spears and machetes over the baptism of a baby girl. The plan to honor the martyred catechist and sacristan Pedro Calungsod, a Filipino is currently in the making. His canonization is set Oct. 21, 2012.
