Dutch botanical artist Jan Moninckx (c. 1656-1714)created hundreds of spectacular, realistic illustrations for his magnum opus known as Moninckx Atlas. An example of his artistry, Pelargonium peltatum, known commonly in English as ivy-leafed geranium, is featured. A description of this South African native cites its attractiveness to butterflies and its ethnobotanical uses.
