Do You Ride or Wear A Toboggan?
Several years ago, we had some friends who were Yankees (and they were pretty darn proud of that fact). He was from northern Maine and she was from New Hampshire. You really don't get much more Yankee than...
9 commentsVegetarian Okra Gumbo Recipe with Kidney Beans
This vegetarian okra gumbo with dark red kidney beans is wonderfully rich and hearty. Okra is sometimes a hard vegetable to use -- you have to use it correctly, and gumbo is one of my favorite ways to do so.

Sharing a few interesting recipes from a very old cookbook of traditional Virginia foods, "Cooking of the Old Dominion Prior to 1838. 0 commentsAppalachian Cat Head Biscuits Recipe
My husband has been trying to perfect a Southern biscuit recipe for years, and now he has finally got it. These biscuits are so light and fluffy they practically float right off the plate.

Fried green tomatoes not bitter, as you would expect a green tomato to be. The process of cooking brings out a hint of sweetness in them, and they become tart and tangy. It is a very unique flavor, and when mixed with the crispy fried breading it is very appealing and distinctive.

It is a wonderful side dish that will fill out any meal.
2 commentsCorn Pudding Recipe Using Corn Bread
Corn pudding is a delicious dish to serve in the colder months as a side to dinner or lunch. This corn pudding is a little closer to the consistency of a quiche than traditional "pudding," and it is more bread-like than many corn pudding recipes because it includes pre-made Southern cornbread. This is a great way to use up any leftover cornbread you have when it starts going stale.

The smoked cheddar cheese and Chipotle peppers give this dish a delicious depth of spicy, smoky, creamy flavor.
