A reusable spacecraft that could take off like a rocket and glide back to earth and land like an ordinary airplane, the Shuttle program launched its first mission on April 12th, 1981. After over 30 years of service to the United States including a total of 135 missions the Space Shuttle program ended on July 21st, 2011.
