Take up arms (Skyrim walkthrough). The Take Up Arms (Skyrim) mission is the first Skyrim mission within the Companions questline. Your first encounter with the companions will (most likely) be outside the Pelagia Farm, where you will encounter Aela the hunteress and two of the other companions in a fight with a giant, amongst the cabbage field.. depending on if you help them battle the giant or not, they will either like you or dislike you (initially).

Trouble in Skyrim (Skyrim walkthrough). To be assigned the Trouble in Skyrim mission, you first need to finish the Take up arms mission, in which you are accepted as a recruit for the Companions. You need to speak to Farkas to be given the Trouble in Skyrim mission / quest. I have later learned that this mission is repeatable and randomized every time you take the mission, so the mission might not be the same for you.
