This is an interesting lens and in my experience very high quality. It is unusually fast for a telephoto zoom, and has the sharpness and attractive bokeh we have learned to expect from L lenses. It is heavy, but can be used hand-held and has Canon's bi-mode image stabilization if you choose to use it that way (I prefer a monopod with this lens if I'm going to be using it for any length of time).
