Aspirin prevents heart attack by blocking production of thromboxane that promotes blood clot and constriction of arteries. It contributes to lessening of population of free radicals and derivatives by blocking the enzyme cyclooxygenase from acting on arachidonic acid; incidence of cancer was reduced by 40% on takers of aspirin. Free radicals start the injury that result in narrowing or weakening of arteries that may result in stroke; less attackers means less chances of injury.
