At look at his life tells a lot about life in Tucson in the late 1800s and early 1900s because saloons were the gathering places for social and political events. Sadly things didn't work out so well for Charles who died without any property, but he can be credited with his part in Tucson's development.

He constructed an 18 room 8,000 sq. ft. home from recycled materials which he called a castle for his little daughter Mary Lou. After Boyce died, Mary Lou and her mother Fran moved into the home. In his will, Boyce said at the end of 2 years they could open a mysterious vault for a surprise he had left them.
