10 Great Amazon Kindle eReader Alternatives for eBook Reading

What is an eReader?

Carrying and storing paper books is a thing of the past with the invention of eBook readers, like the popular Amazon Kindle. Not only are these lightweight devices extremely handy to use for reading your favorite material, but many also have video and imaging capabilities.

In this article, I will outline 10 of the best Amazon Kindle alternatives, complete with features, for you to make an educated decision when purchasing your eReader.

What is an eBook?

An eBook, or electronic book, is a digital form of a publication which could be a novel, magazine, or any other printed publication. Many printed books are now available in a digital form, available for you to read on a handheld device such as an eReader. However, some publications are only available in a digital form, eliminating printed copies. This is very popular for magazines and news.

Benefits of owning an eReader

  • Never worry that a book will be out of print, as eBooks are infinitely available
  • Environmentally friendly, eliminating need to print copies on paper
  • eBooks are less expensive than books, saving you money in the long run
  • eReader capabilities go beyond reading, to editing, taking pictures and more
  • Lightweight and sometimes easier to carry than books and magazines

I am surprised you didn't mention eInk and ePaper - the main reasons people invest in dedicated eReader device, all the LCD tablets are irrelevant to such devices
