Best New AV Audio Video Receivers 2012 - 2013

If you're a sound fanatic like I am, then you know a good movie, TV show, or game can be enhanced by adding a good sound system to your house. The heart of your system is your AV Receiver which picks up the audio input and then decodes it properly bringing incredible sound and effects to your speakers. While some amplifiers may offer simply a balance and sound selection choices a good receiver will have DSP (Digital Signal Processors) which allow your system to handle various audio effects.

If you haven't been in the market for a AV receiver in a while, then new technology you should be looking for includes HDMI 1.4a capability, Airplay, and Dolby Prologic IIz.

Best New Audio Video Receivers 2011

HDMI 1.4a Capability

In March of 2010 HDMI 1.4 capability was released for additional receiver flexibility in adding an audio return channel which allows you to simultaneously connect and pass through from your AV receiver various high definition sources like your consoles Blu-Ray player, Media Center, and various other high definition devices including those with 3D video compatibility.

AirPlay and AirJam

Although it has a different name for different devices for Pioneer has released a revolutionary technology that allows you to stream music from your Itunes (AirPlay) and share up to 4 of your Apple devices (through Bluetooth) in order to share your music and playlists.

Dolby Prologic IIz

Dolby Prologic IIz adds a height component for additional spatial correlation allowing it to expand to 7.1 Height or 9.1 Height.

Pioneer VSX-1021-K 7.1 AV Receiver

My pick for best AV receiver of 2011 is the Pioneer VSX-1021-K. I've also listed my top 5 for various price points and selection.

The VSX-1021-K comes with all the latest technology and specifications including HDMI 1.4a. You'll here movies like you never have before with Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio.

Another really cool feature I like about this receiver is that you can turn all of your apple devices (iPhone, iPod, and iPad) into touch screen remote controls. These devices will also come in handy when you use Pioneer's Airplay and Airjam technology. If you have a bluetooth device you can also play music wirelessly from those devices as well.

Additional specifications include Amplifier Design Direct Energy Channels with 7.1 Power Output Per Channel (20Hz-20kHz, .08%THD@8ohm) 90, Power Output Per Channel (1kHz@8ohm) 110, and Power Output Per Channel (1kHz@6ohm) 130
